A redox (reduction-oxidation) reaction is a chemical reaction which involves loss or gain i.e transfer of electrons between two interacting systems.

The atom which loses electrons is said to have undergone oxidation and is termed as a reducing agent.

While the corresponding atom which gains electron undergoes reduction and is termed as an oxidising agent.

In this case we have:

2Na(s) + Cl2(g) → 2NaCl(s)

Here: The oxidation state of Na changes from 0 to +1

The oxidation state of Cl changes from 0 to -1

Thus, Na atoms loses electron and get oxidized

Cl atoms gain electron and get reduced.

The correct options are:

-Sodium atoms are oxidized

-Sodium transfers electrons to chlorine

Which statement about gases is true? A. They are made up of particles that always move very slowly. B. They are made up of parti
rosijanka [135]

Answer: D. They are made up of hard spheres that are in random motion.

Explanation:

A gas is a state of aggregation of matter in which, under certain conditions of temperature and pressure, its molecules interact weakly with each other, without forming molecular bonds, adopting the shape and volume of the container that contains them and tending to separate everything possible because of its high concentration of kinetic energy.

The molecules of a gas are practically free and have the ability to be distributed throughout the space in which they are contained because the gravitational forces and attraction between them are practically negligible compared to the speed at which they move. .

Therefore, gas molecules do not travel specific trajectories or vibrate in a stationary position, instead they move quickly and randomly through the entire space of the container that contains them.

What was a major flaw in J. J. Thomson’s plum pudding model?
juin [17]
The plum pudding model of the atom was not correct. The prediction that alpha particles would pass through a sample of matter and would be deflected only minimally was disproved by rutherford and co-workers who found that some alpha particles (1 in 8000) bounced almost straight back

Identify the mass law that each of the following observations demonstrates, and explain your reasoning: (a) A sample of potassiu
Rufina [12.5K]

Answer:

A. Law of constant composition or definite proportion

B. Law of conservation of mass

C. Law of multiple proportion

Explanation:

A. The law of constant composition states that "all pure samples of the same chemical compound contain the same proportion of the elements by mass". Considering the pure same of KCl obtained from different locations, their samples regardless of the procedure used to make them or geography wil be in the same proportion when analysed.

B. Law of conservation of mass states that "mass can neither be created nor destroyed". This law applies to all chemical reactions in which matter is only changed from one form to another. In the bulb, magnessium and oxygen merely combines to magnessium oxide. No loss of matter.

C. Law of multiple proportion states that "when two elements combine to form two or more different compounds, the masses of one of the elements which seperately combine with a fixed mass of the other element are in a simple ratio ".
