Answer & Explanation:

The Compromise of 1877 helped to put an end the Reconstruction because of the agreement made between the southern Democrats and allies of the Republican. This was the time when the results of the presidential election between Rutherford B Hayes and Samuel Tilden were questioned.

Therefore, a special committee was formed by the federal government to decide the winner. The committee came to a compromise known as the Compromise of 1877. This agreement made  Rutherford B Hayes, the President of the United States in return for the evacuation of federal force from the former Confederate States. This removal of federal troops permitted the governments of Southern states to take complete control of their respective state.
