A street is 10 yards wide. You are at the curb at the point A. The point B is directly across the street from you, at the opposi

te curb, 10 yards from you. The point C is 50 yards down the street from point B, also at the curb across and down the street from you. You want to go from point A to point C as rapidly as possible. You must walk when you are in the street, and your walking pace is 2 yards per second. But you can run when you are on the sidewalk --- the line between points B and C --- and your running pace is 4 yards per second. One possibility is to cross the street orthogonally from A to B (walking) and then run down the sidewalk from B to C. Another possibility is to slant across the street on a straight line from A to C, though you must walk the entire way. (Don't worry about traffic; there are no cars coming to interfere with your crossing. Still, you must walk when in the street.) Then an idea occurs to you: You could walk from A to a point D on the opposite side of the street, with D somewhere in between B and C. Then you can run the rest of the way from D to C. Does this idea allow you to save time, compared with the two possibilities in the first paragraph

What is the value of the coins?
nikitadnepr [17]

Answer:

220 cents, $2.20

Step-by-step explanation:

Count the amount of QUARTERS there are.

7 quarters.

The next coin in the photo is a dime.

4 dimes.

The next coin in the photo is a penny.

5 pennies.

Quarters are worth 25 cents, dimes are worth 10 cents, and pennies are worth 1 cent.

25(7) + 4(10) + 5(1) = v (the total value)

25 * 7 = 175 cents

4 * 10 = 40 cents

5 * 1 = 5 cents

175 + 40 + 5 = v

175 + 40 = 215 cents

215 + 5 = 220 cents

The value of all of those coins is 220 cents, or $2.20.

Fill in the blanks below with the correct units. (a) Karen's desk is about 3 ? (b) Dan's refrigerator has a mass of 80 ? (c) The
Nezavi [6.7K]

Hello!

To solve this exercise, let's think a bit and choose the best option for each alternative.

(a) Karen's desk is about 3...

Well, a desk with 3mm or 3cm is too small, and with 3km is too big.

In this case, the best option is 3 meters (even though it's big, it's the best option).

(b) Dan's refrigerator has a mass of 80...

Usually, a refrigerator is heavy. So the best option is kilograms.

(c) The bucket holds about 5... of water.

5ml of water is too little, it fits in a spoon. The correct option is liters.

Answers:

a. meters

b. kilogr

Which are the solutions to the equation 4x^2-7x=3+24
inysia [295]

Hello from MrBillDoesMath!

Answer:

        (1/8) ( 7 + sqrt(481) )

        (1/8) ( 7 - sqrt(481) )

Discussion:

The equation is equivalent to 4x^2 - 7x -27 = 0 (as 3 + 24 = 0), Using the quadratic formula:

x =    ( - (-7) +\- sqrt ((-7)^2- 4*4*(-27))   )/ (2*4)

  = (1/8) ( 7 +\- sqrt(49+ 432) ) =

   = (1/8) ( 7 +\- sqrt(481))
