Answer:

After 90 minutes 5.15625 g amount left from total of 165 g.

Explanation:

Given data:

Technetium-104 half life = 18.0 min

Total amount of sample = 165 g

Amount left after 90.0 min = ?

Solution:

First of all we will calculate the number of half lives passes.

Number of half lives = T elapsed / Half life

Number of half lives = 90 min /18.0 min

Number of half lives = 5

Amount left:

At time 0 = 165 g

At first half life = 165 g/ 2= 82.5 g

At 2nd half life = 82.5 g/2 = 41.2 g

At 3rd half life = 41.2 g/ 2 = 20.625 g

At 4th half life = 20.625 g/ 2 = 10.3125 g

At 5th half life = 10.3125 g /2 = 5.15625 g

Thus, after 90 minutes 5.15625 g amount left from total of 165 g.

Sort each of the following events based on whether the solubility of the indicated gas will increase, decrease, or stay the same
STatiana [176]

The answers are: 1) decrease 2) increase 3) decrease 4) increase 5) increase

FURTHER EXPLANATION

The following factors affect the solubility of gases in liquids:

1. Temperature - inverse relationship

As the temperature is increased, the gas particles gain energy and start to move faster. This enables them to escape the liquid leading to decrease in the solubility of the gas.

2. Partial Pressure of gas - direct relationship

According to Henry's Law, for a given temperature, the solubility of the gas and the partial pressure of the gas above the liquid are proportional. With the application of pressure on the gas above the liquid, the gas particles are forced to move into the solvent.

1. Temperature is increased - gas solubility decreases (Factor 1)

2. Partial pressure of an anesthetic gas is increased - gas solubility increases (Factor 2)

3. O2: temperature of a body of water rises - gas solubility decreases (Factor 1)

4. Pressure of a gas over a solvent is increased - gas solubility increases (Factor 2)

5. Air in blood: a diver descends 10 m and the pressure increase by 1 atm - gas solubility increases (Factor 2)

As the diver goes deeper, the pressure increases and more gases dissolve in the diver's blood. As the diver ascends, he or she must do so slowly to ensure that this large amount of gas is removed from the blood gradually otherwise, the diver might suffer from decompression sickness.

List three halogens, and describe a property
that they all share
iragen [17]

Answer:

Three halogens:

Fluorine, chlorine, bromine.

Explanation:

Halogens are present in group seventeen of periodic table.

Their are five elements in this group fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, astatine.

Three halogens:

Fluorine, chlorine, bromine.

All these share common properties such as,

All of these have seven valance electrons.

When combine with hydrogen they form acids.

H₂ + Cl₂ → 2HCl

All of these are toxic in nature.

They are highly electronegative and most reactive elements.

When combine with metals they form salts such as sodium chloride, magnesium bromide.

2Na + Cl₂ → 2NaCl

2Na + Br₂ → 2NaBr

Mg + Br₂ → MgBr₂

Mg + Cl₂ → MgCl₂
