A 5.18x10^4 kg railroad car moves on a frictionless horizontal rails until it hits a horizontal spring stopper with a force cons

tant of 4.21x10^5 N/m. When the railroad car comes to a complete stop, the compression of the spring stopper is 32 cm. How fast was the railroad car initially?

Answer:

The initial velocity of the cart was 0.91m/s.

Explanation:

When the car comes to a stop it has delivered all of its kinetic energy to the spring; therefore,

\dfrac{1}{2}kx^2 = \dfrac{1}{2}  mv^2

solving for v we get:

v = x\sqrt{\dfrac{k}{m} },\\

we put in k = 4.21*10^{5}N/m, m = 5.18*10^{4}kg, and x = 0.32m to get:

v = (0.32m)\sqrt{\dfrac{4.21*10^5}{5.18*10^4} },\\

\boxed{v = 0.91m/s.}

Inga [223]
I've had a similar question on an assignment myself, so I'm going to assume it had the same idea.

When you organize them in such a way, the pattern that emerges tells you elements organized by atomic weight have the same number of valence electrons.

Hope this helps!

you are riding on a train traveling 80 km/h. if you walk toward the back of the train at a speed of 1.2 km/h relative to the tra
Mazyrski [523]

Answer:

Velocity of the passenger = 78.8[km/h]

Explanation:

In order to solve this problem, we must observe the train from a distant point of the train. In this way we can observe that the train moves at 80[km/h] relative to the ground.

In such a way that the passenger moves in a direction contrary to the movement of the train.

v_{pass}=80-1.2\\ v_{pass}=78.8[km/h]

The Observer located outside the train will see how the passenger moves away at 78.8 [km / h] and not at 80[km/h] which is the speed of the train.
