A sample of glass bead weighs 34.5g. The beads are heated to 100.0C in a boiling water bath and poured into a beaker containing

100.0g H2O at 25C. when thermal equilibrium is reached, the temperature of the glass and the water is 29.9C. what is the specific heat of the glass

The heat lost by the beads is equal to the heat gained by the water. The specific heat capacity of water is 4.18 joules/gram. "w" will denote water's property and "b" will denote the beads' properties.
mw x Cpw x ΔTw = -mb x Cpb x ΔTb
100 x 4.18 x (29.9 - 25) = 34.5 x Cpb x (100 - 29.9)

Cpb = 0.84 joules/gram

Answer:

Infectious diseases are commonly transmitted through direct person-to-person contact.

The main four pathogens are virus, bacteria, protists and fungi.

Bacteria, fungi and protists can reproduce wherever the conditions are warm, with plenty of moisture, nutrients, and space. Viruses can only reproduce by invading living cells.

31. calculate the amount of energy released as heat by the freezing of 13.3 g of a liquid substance, given that the substance ha
spin [16.1K]

From the calculations, the heat of fusion of the substance is 0.73 kJ

<h3>What is is the heat of freezing?</h3>

The heat of freezing is the energy released when the substance is converted from liquid to solid.

Now we know that the molar mass of the substance is 82.9 g/mol  hence the number of moles of the substance is;  13.3 g /82.9 g/mol  = 0.16 moles

Now the heat of fusion shall be;

H = 4.60 kj/mol * 0.16 moles

H = 0.73 kJ

When polonium-210 emits an alpha particle, the child isotope has an atomic mass of
Sergeeva-Olga [200]

Answer: The child isotope has an atomic mass of 206.

Explanation:

Alpha decay : When a larger nuclei decays into smaller nuclei by releasing alpha particle. In this process, the mass number and atomic number is reduced by 4 and 2 units respectively.

General representation of an element is given as:   _Z^A\textrm{X}

where,

Z represents Atomic number

A represents Mass number

X represents the symbol of an element

General representation of alpha decay :

_Z^A\textrm{X}\rightarrow _{Z-2}^{A-4}Y+_2^4\alpha

_{84}^{210}\textrm{Po}\rightarrow_{82}^{206}\textrm{Pb}+_2^4\textrm{He}
