The gravitational force between two masses act along the line that connects the two masses and it is an attractive force. The value of this force is directly proportional with the values of the two masses [m_1] and [m_2] and inversely proportional with the square of the distance between the two objects.

[F = G*(m_1*m_2)/R^2]

Here above G is the gravitational constant.

With the values given in the problem text one has

[F = 6.67*10^-11*(70*2000)/1^2...]

Depth of a pond seems shallower than real depth,why?
IgorLugansk [536]

Answer:

The refraction of light at the surface of water makes ponds and swimming pools appear shallower than they really are. A 1m deep pond would only appear to be 0.75 m deep when viewed from directly above. When light emerges from glass or water into air it speeds up again.

Can I have some help please with any of the questions
vovangra [49]

6b: impulse is change in momentum. Change in momentum p=m[v(final)-v(initial). Final velocity is zero and initial velocity is the one you calculated before impact: -15.7 since it’s going down. Now plug in numbers and you get 78.5 in the upward direction.

6c: change in momentum p=Ft. we already calculated change in momentum. So plug it into equation and solve for t. 78.5/655= 0.119 s

Apply the same idea for question 7. Hope this helped

Answer:

Wave Variables

In the chapter on motion in two dimensions, we defined the following variables to describe harmonic motion:

Amplitude—maximum displacement from the equilibrium position of an object oscillating around such equilibrium position

Frequency—number of events per unit of time

Period—time it takes to complete one oscillation

For waves, these variables have the same basic meaning. However, it is helpful to word the definitions in a more specific way that applies directly to waves:

].
