The gravitational force between two masses act along the line that connects the two masses and it is an attractive force. The value of this force is directly proportional with the values of the two masses [m_1] and [m_2] and inversely proportional with the square of the distance between the two objects.

[F = G*(m_1*m_2)/R^2]

Here above G is the gravitational constant.

With the values given in the problem text one has

[F = 6.67*10^-11*(70*2000)/1^2...]

Which factors affect gravitational potential force but not elastic potential energy
Inga [223]

Answer:

The mass of the object involved and the value of the gravitational acceleration

Explanation:

- Gravitational potential energy is defined as the energy possessed by an object in a gravitational field due to its position with respect to the ground:

U=mgh

where m is the mass of the object, g is the gravitational acceleration and h is the heigth of the object with respect to the ground.

- Elastic potential energy is defined as the energy possessed by an elastic object and it is given as:

U=\frac{1}{2}kx^2

where k is the spring constant of the elastic object, while x is the compression/stretching of the spring with respect to the equilibrium position.

As we can see from the equations, both types of energy depends on the relative position of the object/end of the spring with respect to a certain reference position (h in the first formula, x in the second formula), but gravitational potential energy also depends on m (the mass) and g (the gravitational acceleration) while the elastic energy does not.

What is an advantageous disadvantage of generating electricity using a hydroelectric power station rather than wind turbines ?
Andrei [34K]

The advantages of generating electricity using a hydroelectric power station rather than wind turbines is that it's not polluting anything since it's regular water. It also can be used over and over again.

The disadvantages of using a hydroelectric power station is that it can be very deadly and cause damage to towns if it overfills or falls apart releasing all the water. Since nothing lasts forever, eventually they will break apart and would require everyone to evacuate before doing so. Another disadvantage is that it disrupts migration of animals that live in the water such as fish.

It's better than wind turbines because wind turbines require a lot of wind to turn and on days without wind, very little energy can be produced.
