Two blocks with different mass are attached to either end of a light rope that passes over a light, frictionless pulley that is

suspended from the ceiling. The masses are released from rest, and the more massive one starts to descend. After this block has descended a distance 1.30 m, its speed is 3.00 m/s.
A) If the total mass of the two blocks is 17.0 kg, what is the mass of the more massive block?Take free fall acceleration to be 9.80 m/s^2. (mass 1)
B) What is the mass of the lighter block?
Take free fall acceleration to be 9.80 m/s^2. (mass 2)

Answer:

(A) M2 = 11.5 kg

(B) M1 = 5.5 kg

Explanation:

distance (h) = 1.3 m

speed (u) = 3 m/s

free fall acceleration (g) = 9.80 m/s^2

total masses (M1 + M2) = 17 kg  .....equation 1

(A) from the conservation of energy, change in kinetic energy (KE) = change in potential energy (PE)

ΔKE = ΔPE

0.5v^{2}(M1) - (-0.5v^{2}(M2)) = gh ( M2 - M1)

0.5v^{2}(M1 + M2) = gh ( M2 - M1)

substituting all required detail in the equation above we have

0.5 x (3 x 3) x (17) = (9.8 x 1.3) x (M2 - M1)

76.5 = 12.74 x {M2 - M1)

(M2 - M1) = 76.5 / 12.74

M2 - M1 =6 kg ....equation 2

recall that the total mass : (M1 + M2) = 17 kg  ... equation 1

we can solve the two equations above simultaneously by adding the two equations together

M1 + M2 = 17 kg  ... equation 1

M2 - M1 = 6 kg ....equation 2

M1 + (-M1) + M2 + M2 = 17 + 6

2(M2) = 23

M2 = 11.5 kg

substituting the value to M2 into equation 1 we have

M1 + M2 = 17 kg  ... equation 1

M1 + 11.5 = 17

M1 = 17 - 11.5 = 5.5 kg

M1 = 5.5 kg

A hydraulic press must be used to press-fit two components together in an assembly process. the system must generate at least 77
Kobotan [32]
The pressure generated by the piston at the input cylinder must be:

p = F / A = 250 lb-f / 30 in^2

The pressure generated by the piston at the output cylinders is p = F / A = 775 lb-f / A.

Pascal principle rules that both pressures are equal, so:

250 lb-f / 30 in^2 = 775 lb-f / A => A = 775 lb-f * 30 in^2 / 250 lb-f = 93 in^2

Gvien that each output cylinder are 30in^2 you need 93 / 30 = 3.1 cylinders.

Which means that at least you need 4 cylinders to generate a force at least of 775 lb-f.

Why does a box on the seat of a car slide around on the c one the car speeds up slows down or turns a corner?
Feliz [49]
Because the box keeps going straight at the same speed, while the seat under it speeds up, slows down, or changes direction.

a body is projected at an angle of 30 degrees to the horizontal with a velocity of 15m/s, calculate the time it takes to reach t
andreev551 [17]

Explanation:

The vertical component the velocity of the projectile is 15 m/s x sin 30 = 7.5 m/s.

The body is accelarating downwards at 10 m/s^2.

This means that every second its upward velocity reduces by 10 m/s.

So if the body is travelling upwards at 7.5 m/s then how long does it take for the velocity to become 0?

(7.5 m/s) / (10 m/s^2) = 0.75 s
