Second stage of cellular respiration is

The stage happens in mitochondria.

Oxygen combines with small molecules.

Energy is released.

Explanation:

Krebs cycle is the another name for second stage of cellular respiration . Throughout this stage, pair of molecules of ATP are generated. Another energy-storing molecules are also produced. Into the mitochondrial matrix which is the deepest part of mitochondria, all pyruvate from glycolysis (from first stage) moves.

The Krebs cycle lacks oxygen. Anything that requires oxygen is represented as aerobic. The oxygen blends with the carbon from the pyruvate molecules. This creates carbon dioxide, a waste product. As a result of second stage NADH is generated.

During cellular respiration, the bonds of food molecules are broken, so energy can be released to fuel other cellular processes.
UkoKoshka [18]

B. New compounds with lower-energy bonds must be formed when the high-energy bonds in food molecules are broken.

Explanation:

The correct statement from the given choices is that new compounds with lower-energy bonds must be formed when the high- energy bonds in the food molecules are broken down.

Cellular respiration is classified as an catabolic process in which an energy rich substance is broken down into a lesser one.

 • Metabolic processes are usually divided into catabolic and anabolic processes.
 • In catabolic step, energy is broken down.
 • Cellular respiration is catabolic whereas photosynthesis is anabolic.
 • The new compounds formed have lower energy bonds after respiration.
