Choose the statement below that is TRUE.
Leni [432]

Answer: Option (a) is the correct answer.

Explanation:

A weak acid is defined as an acid that dissociates partially when dissolve in water or a polar solvent.

For example, acetic acid is a weak acid and when dissolved in water it dissociates partly into ions as follows.

         CH_{3}COOH(aq) \rightleftharpoons CH_{3}COO^{-}(aq) + H^{+}(aq)

And, a strong acid is defined as an acid which when dissolved in water dissociates completely into ions.

For example, HCl is a strong acid and when dissolved in water it dissociates completely.

       HCl \rightarrow H^{+} + Cl^{-}

Thus, we can conclude that the statement a weak acid solution consists of mostly non-ionized acid molecules, is true.

A gas with a volume of 8 L at a temperature of 473K is switched to a new container with a temperature of 350K. If the pressure r
Digiron [165]

Answer:

The new  volume is 5.92 L,  which is approximately 6 L

Explanation:

As the gas temperature increases, the molecules move faster and take less time to reach the walls of the container. This means that the number of crashes per unit of time will be greater. That is, there will be an increase (for an instant) in the pressure inside the container and the volume will increase.

So Charles's Law is one of the gas laws that relates the volume and temperature of a certain amount of gas at constant pressure and says that:

  • If the temperature increases the volume increases
  • If the temperature decreases the volume decreases

Mathematically this is expressed by:

\frac{V}{T}=k

When you want to study two different states, an initial and a final one of a gas, this law is expressed by:

\frac{V1}{T1} =\frac{V2}{T2}

In this case:

  • V1: 8 L
  • T1: 473 K
  • V2: ?
  • T2: 350 K

Replacing:

\frac{8 L}{473K} =\frac{V2}{350K}

Solving:

V2=350K*\frac{8L}{473K}

V2=5.92 L

<u><em>The new  volume is 5.92 L,  which is approximately 6 L</em></u>

How is the formation of covalent bonds similar to kids sharing markers? how is it different? if possible, discuss your answer wi
vagabundo [1.1K]
A covalent bond means shared electrons between atoms. This is similar to kids sharing markers because the markers (electrons) are being shared between the kids (atoms). Covalent bonds are different than this metaphor because 1) the electrons are constantly moving about while the kids can steal and keep the markers and 2) the electrons and atoms are physically smaller

Juan and Jose are having an argument about their science book. Juan says that since the book is sitting still, there are no forc
Mariana [72]

Answer:

Jose is right

Explanation:

As the book is sitting still on the table, it is being acted upon by two forces of equal magnitude and opposite direction. Theses are;

i) The weight of the book

ii) The normal reaction on the book

The weight of the book acts downwards while the normal reaction acts upwards. These two forces exactly counterbalance each other hence the book sits still on the table.
