A 375-g stone hangs from a thin light string that is wrapped around the circumference of a pulley with a moment of inertia of 0.

0125 kg ∙ m2 and a radius of 26 cm. When the stone is released, the stone accelerates downward and the pulley rotates about its axis as the string unwinds. What is the magnitude of the acceleration of the stone in m/s2 ?

Answer:

The magnitude of the acceleration of the stone is 19.87 m/s²

Explanation:

Given;

mass of stone, m = 375 g = 0.375 kg

moment of inertia, I = 0.0125 kg.m²

radius of the pulley, r = 26 cm = 0.26 m

Torque generated by the pulley on the stone is given as;

τ = F x r = Iα

where;

F is applied force on the stone due to its weight

r is the radius of the pulley

I is moment of inertia

α is angular acceleration (rad/s²)

Force, F = mg = 0.375 x 9.8 = 3.675 N

Torque, τ = F x r

τ = 3.675 x 0.26

τ = 0.9555 N.m

τ = Iα

Angular acceleration, α = τ / I

α = 0.9555 / 0.0125

α = 76.44 rad/s²

Finally, determine linear acceleration, a,  in m/s²

a = αr

a = 76.44 x 0.26

a = 19.87 m/s²

Therefore, the magnitude of the acceleration of the stone is 19.87 m/s²

Five equal negative charges are uniformly spaced in a semicircular
balu736 [363]

Answer:

The direction is that of a 3rd quadrant angle

Explanation:

when you have 2 45 angles it equals to 90 then with the 90 we multiply by 2 due to the 2 adjacent angles equating to 180 which swings it to the 3rd quadrant angle

The tension at which a fishing line snaps is commonly called the line's strength .what minimum strength is needed for a line tha
marusya05 [52]
Equal the tension of the line to the force needed to stop (deselerate) the mass from a speed of 9.2 ft/s to 0 in 4.4 inches.

Start converting all the information to the SI.

mass, m = 19 lb * [1kg/2.2046lb] = 8.618 kg

speed: 9.2 ft/s * .3048m/ft = .2.80 m/s

distance to stop: 4.4 in * [2.54cm/in]*[1m/100cm] = 0.11176 m

constant acceleration => Vf^2 = Vo^2 - 2ad

Vf = 0 => a= V0^2 / 2d = [2.80m/s]^2 / (2*0.11176m) = 35.1 m/s^2

Use the second Law of Newton

Net force = m*a = 8.618 kg * 35.1 m/s^2 = 302.5 N

Answer: 302.5 N
