Given is the number of science fiction books = 48

Let the number of mystery books be = x

Let the number of biographies be = y

Ratio of the number of mystery books to the number of science fiction books is 4:3 so \frac{4}{3}= \frac{x}{48}

=3x=48\times4

x=64

Ratio of the number of science fiction books to the number of biographies is 4:5 so \frac{4}{5}=\frac{48}{y}

=4y=5\times48

y=60

Hence there are 48 science fiction books, 64 mystery books and 60 biographies.

So total number of books are = 48+64+60=172

lozanna [386]
We have 20% and 70% salt solutions.
We need 9 liters of 50% salt solution.
"t" is liters of twenty % solution "s" is liters of seventy % solution

A) t + s = 9
B) .2t + .7s = (.5 * 9)
Multiplying A) by -.2
A) -.2t + -.2s = -1.8 Adding that to B)
B) .2t + .7s = (.5 * 9)
.5s = 2.7
s = 5.4 liters of 70% salt

A) t + 5.4 = 9

t = 3.6 liters of 20% salt

How would I solve this problem
pashok25 [27]

After <em>t</em> hours, the first truck covers a distance of (70 km/h) <em>t</em> while the second truck covers a distance of (80 km/h) <em>t</em>. So the distance between them is

(70 km/h) <em>t</em> + (80 km/h) <em>t</em> = (150 km/h) <em>t</em>

They are 900 km apart after

(150 km/h) <em>t</em> = 900 km   ===>   <em>t</em> = (900 km) / (150 km/h) = 6 h
