A 20 kg rock is on the edge of a 100 meter cliff. What is the

Physics

Artemon [7]4 years ago

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Mass of rock = 20kg

Height of cliff = 100m

Unknown:

Potential energy of the rock = ?

Kinetic energy before striking the ground = ?

Solution:

Potential energy is the energy due to the position of a body.

                P.E = mgh

Kinetic energy is the energy due to the motion of a body

                K.E = \frac{1}{2} mv²

m = mass of body

g= acceleration due to gravity

h = height of the body

v = velocity of the rock

At the top of cliff the stone has no kinetic energy because it is as rest. Velocity at rest is zero.

   P.E at the cliff top = mgh = 20 x 100 x 9.8 = 1960J = 19.6kJ

If the rock falls, before it comes to rest, based on the law of conservation of energy, the potential energy of the rock will be the same as the kinetic energy before it falls:

          P.E + 0 = 0 + K.E

Therefore, the potential energy of the rock at rest is the same as the kinetic energy of the rock in flight before it comes to rest.

   P.E = K.E =  1960J = 19.6kJ

which describes the attraction or repulsion caused by magnets? a. magnetic domain b. magnetic force c. magnetic field
viva [34]
B. Magnetic force-attraction or repulsion that arises between electrically charged particles because of their motion. It is the basic force responsible for such effects as the action of electric motors and the attraction of magnets for iron. Electric forces exist among stationary electric charges; both electric and magnetic forces exist among moving electric charges. The magnetic force between two moving charges may be described as the effect exerted upon either charge by a magnetic field created by the other.

A car leaves a garage at 10 mph. it speeds up to 20 miles per hour in the city and eventually increases to 50 miles per hour in
LekaFEV [45]

Average speed = (total distance covered) / (time to cover the distance)

= (50 miles) / (1.5 hours)

= (50/1.5) miles/hours

= (33 and 1/3) mph .

We don't care about all that other "data" given earlier in the question.
We only need to know the total distance covered and the time it took
to cover the distance.

A spring of spring constant k is attached to a support at the bottom of a ramp that makes an angle θ with the horizontal. A bloc
Nikitich [7]

Answer:

x=\frac {kd^{2}}{2(mgsin\theta +\mu_{k}mgcos\theta)}

Explanation:

From the law of conservation of energy

Energy lost  by the spring, W=Kinetic energy gained, KE+Potential energy gained, PE+Work done by friction, Fr

0.5kd^{2}=0.5mv^{2}+mgLsin\theta+\mu_{k}mgcos\theta x

x(mgsin\theta+\mu_{k}mgcos\theta)=0.5kd^{2}

x=\frac {kd^{2}}{2(mgsin\theta +\mu_{k}mgcos\theta)}

The required distance from A to B is x=\frac {kd^{2}}{2(mgsin\theta +\mu_{k}mgcos\theta)}

A bicyclist increases her speed from 4.0 m/s to 6.0 m/s. The combined mass of the bicyclist and the bicycle is 55 kg. How much w
11Alexandr11 [23.1K]
Kinetic energy of the horse and rider = 1/2 (mass) (speed)²

At 4.0 m/s :  KE = 1/2 (55kg) (4 m/s)²  =  440 joules

At 6.0 m/s :  KE = 1/2 (55kg) (6 m/s)²  =  990 joules

She increased the kinetic energy of herself and her vehicle by 550 joules,
so she must have put at least that much work into it.
