Large capacitors can hold a potentially dangerous charge long after a circuit has been turned off, so it is important to make su

re they are discharged before you touch them. Suppose a 120 μF capacitor from a camera flash unit retains a voltage of 140 V when an unwary student removes it from the camera. If the student accidentally touches the two terminals with his hands, and if the resistance of his body between his hands is 1.8 kΩ, for how long will the current across his chest exceed the danger level of 50 mA?

Answer:

93.3x10^-3s

Explanation:

If

Resistance = 1.8 kΩ

Current = 50 mA

Capacitor = 120 μF

Voltage = 140 V

to calculate the discharge current

Applying the formula of discharge current

io=vo/R

io= 140/ 1.8x 10³

= 0.078A

to calculate the time

Applying the formula of current

io= vo/R e-t/RC

50= 140/1800e-t/RC

0.649= e-t/RC

-t/RC= ln( 0.649)

t = 0.432x 120x10^-6x 1800

t=93.3 x 10^-3seconds

A 69 g particle is moving to the left at 25 m/s . How much net work must be done on the particle to cause it to move to the righ
LekaFEV [45]

Answer:11.59 J

Explanation:

Given

mass of Particle m=69 gm

Initially Particle moves towards left v_1=25 m/s

Final velocity of Particle is towards Right v_2=31 m/s

According to Work Energy theorem

Work done by all the Forces=change in Kinetic Energy

Work done by Force=\frac{mv_2^2}{2}-\frac{mv_1^2}{2}

W=\frac{69\times 10^{-3}}{2}\left [ 31^-25^2\right ]

W=\frac{69\times 10^{-3}}{2}\left [ 961-625\right ]

W=11.59 J

You normally drive on the freeway between San Diego and Los Angeles at an average speed of 105 km/h (65 mi/h), and the trip take
valkas [14]

Answer: 2 hr 45 min

Explanation:

Given

The average speed between San Diego and Los Angeles is 105\ kmph

time taken for this trip is  1\ hr\ 50\ min\ or\ \frac{11}{6}\ hr

Distance between San Diego and Los Angeles is

\Rightarrow d=105\times \dfrac{11}{6}\\\\\Rightarrow d=192.5\ km

For Friday afternoon, the average speed is  70\ km/h

time taken to complete the trip is

\Rightarrow t=\dfrac{192.5}{70}\\\\\Rightarrow t=2.75\ hr\ or\ 2\ hr\ 45\ min

If you walk across a nylon rug and then touch a large metal object such as a doorknob you may get a spark and a shock. Why does
k0ka [10]

Answer:

Explanation:

  • You are more likely to be shocked during dry days than humid days because during humid days more water is in the air, and water being a good conductor helps the air absorb some of those charges from you, while during dry days there is less water in the air and hence the charges build up since they are not absorbed.
  • You are less likely to be shocked when you touch a small metal object because smaller metal objects like a paper clip have less space to accept net charge.
