Chaucer's description of the pilgrims reveal traits of his own personality.  His descriptions show he is direct, he doesn't fear describing the negative traits of religious authorities.  He denounces their corrupt behavior giving some detailed information about what these characters do.  He is very observant, he describes not only personality traits but also clothing and other details.  The humor in his descriptions also reveal that he is not necessarily imposing his own perspective on the reader, but gives you the possibility of understanding the character's humanity.

viktelen [127]

(Favorable slogan) Virtue, mission, and destiny under God.

This slogan summarizes the three main points used by the advocates of the “Manifest Destiny” doctrine (virtue of the American people, a mission to change the “Old World” and the manifest destiny under God’s guidance). Considering the thesis of the “American exceptionality”, the country had the legitimacy to expand itself while spreading the values of freedom and democracy.

(Unfavorable slogan) Don’t plant in America’s soil the seed of imperialism! Say no to the right of conquest!

Many were critic with the “Manifest Destiny” doctrine and considered it to be belligerent and contrary to the Republican values. It constituted a call for aggression which was, according to their point of view, a contradiction with the democratic founding values of the country.

According to this perspective, education is functional to society because it meets its needs of different type of workers and personnel; educational inequalities are not necessarily negative, since society needs workers in high-status positions but it also needs 'blue collar workers', therefore, contemporary education, from this perspective, plays its role in meeting society's needs.
