Chemistry

The correct answer is option C.

1-hexene is an unsaturated hydrocarbon.

2-methylheptane , 3-ethylpentane and cyclopentane have the suffix -ane, which means they are all alkanes . Alkanes do not have any unsaturation or double bonds.

1-hexene, has the suffix -ene, which means that it is an alkene.   Alkanes do have unsaturation or double bonds. As the name indicates, 1-hexene has one double bond.

CH₂=CHCH₂CH₂CH₂CH₃

\boxed{\text{C. 1-hexene}} is an unsaturated hydrocarbon.

Further Explanation:

Hydrocarbons:

The organic compounds consisting of hydrogen and carbon atoms alone are called hydrocarbons. Such compounds can be aromatic, aliphatic, linear, branched or cyclic. Aromatic hydrocarbons, alkanes, cycloalkanes are different types of hydrocarbons.

Types of hydrocarbons:

(I) Saturated hydrocarbons

These are variety of hydrocarbons that contain only single bonds in them and are the simplest hydrocarbons. Saturated hydrocarbons have the general formula of \text{C}_{\text{n}}\text{H}_{\text{2n+2}}  in which n indicates the number of carbon atoms present in it. Examples of saturated hydrocarbons are methane, ethane, butane and propane.

(II) Unsaturated hydrocarbons

The type of hydrocarbons that has multiple bonds in them are known as unsaturated hydrocarbons. Multiple bonds can be either double or triple bonds. Alkenes are those unsaturated hydrocarbons consisting of double bonds in them. For example, ethene, propene, and pentene are alkenes. Alkynes refer to unsaturated hydrocarbons with triple bonds in them. Ethyne and propyne are examples of alkynes. Alkenes are represented by general formula,  \text{C}_{\text{n}}\text{H}_{\text{2n}} while alkynes are represented by general formula of \text{C}_{\text{n}}\text{H}_{\text{2n-2}} .

Alkanes use ‘ane’ as suffix in their naming. Alkenes use ‘ene’ as suffix while ‘yne’ is used in naming of alkynes.

Since 2-methylheptane, 3-ethylpentane and cyclopentane have suffix ‘ane’ in their names and are tered as saturated class of hydrocarbons called alkanes. But 1-hexene has suffix ‘ene’, indicating that it belongs to unsaturated hydrocarbons called alkenes. Therefore 1-hexene is an unsaturated hydrocarbon.

Describe how to do a flame test on a sample of a salt
Katen [24]

Answer:Hope this helps!

Explanation:

You can use a flame test to help identify the composition of a sample. The test is used to identify metal ions (and certain other ions) based on the characteristic emission spectrum of the elements. The test is performed by dipping a wire or wooden splint into a sample solution or coating it with the powdered metal salt. The color of a gas flame is observed as the sample is heated. If a wooden splint is used, it's necessary to wave the sample through the flame to avoid setting the wood on fire. The color of the flame is compared against the flame colors known to be associated with the metals.

The density of water at 4 degrees Celsius is 1.00 g/cm cubed at unknown object has density of 7.9 g/cm cubed would you expect it
NNADVOKAT [17]

Answer:

The object will be sank

Explanation:

In this case the object is more dense than water.

Density is the relationship between a certain amount of mass of matter and the volume that is being occupied by it.

The object occupies more volume, so it occupies more mass.

As the mass from the object is higher, the object will be sank because the weight is higher than the weight from the liquid.

If the object has a lower density than the water, it will float on it.

Rank these systems in order of decreasing entropy. 1 = Greatest entropy and 7 = Least entropy. Group of answer choices 1 mol of
AlladinOne [14]

Answer:

  1. 1 mole of carbon disulfide gas at 273 K and 40 L
  2. 1 mol of chlorine gas at 273 K and 40 L
  3. 1 mol of neon gas at 273 K and 40 L
  4. 1 mol of neon gas at 273 K and 20 L
  5. 1/2 mol of neon gas at 273 K and 20 L
  6. 1/2 mol of neon gas at 100 K and 20 L
  7. 1/2 mol of liquid neon at 100 K

Explanation:

Entropy is the measure of disorder or randomness in a closed system. Its an extensive property of a thermodynamic system

The following points must be considered when ranking the systems according to their entropy:

  1. The entropy of gases are highest than liquids or solid. And entropy of liquid is higher than solid. That is because gas has more microstate thus have the highest entropy.
  2. Entropies of large complicated molecules are greater than those of smaller, simpler molecules. Because larger molecules have more disorder because of the greater number of ways they can be move around in three dimensional space.
  3. highest temperature and highest volume will lead to greatest entropy
  4. 1 mole of any substance will have greater entropy than 1/2 mole of that same substance

Jerry listed the following process on his notebook:
topjm [15]

Answer:

2

Explanation:

1. The dew is formed when the water vapor at the atmosphere contacts the leaves, which are at a low temperature, so, the vapor temperature decreases, and the liquid is formed. So, it's a gas to liquid change.

2. Ice cubes are at the solid-state, thus this transformation is solid to a liquid change.

3. The cold juice is at a low temperature, so when the water vapor of the air contacts with the glass, its temperature decreases, and its change to a liquid phase. So, it's a gas to liquid change.

4. The evaporated water from the Earth's surface goes to the atmosphere, and, at high altitudes, the temperature is low, so the water vapor condenses and the drops get closer together forming the clouds. So, it's a gas to a liquid change.
