The mechanical energy is not conserved because some energy energy is lost due to friction.

Answer:

Not conserved

Explanation:

Mechanical energy is the sum of potential energy (U) and kinetic energy (K):

E=K+U

The law of conservation of energy states that for any isolated system (=no external forces acting on it), the mechanical energy is conserved.

However, the skier skiing down the slope is not an isolated system. In fact, the force of friction between the surface of the slope and the skis acts on the skier: because of this, some of the mechanical energy of the skier is actually 'lost' while he skies down the slope, and converted into thermal energy (heat) of the snow.

The length of a wooden rod is 25.5 cm. What is this length in:<br>(a) millimetres?<br>(b) metres?
larisa86 [58]

Answer:

(a)255mm \\ (b)0.255m

Explanation:

(a)1cm = 10mm \\ 25.5cm = x

Cross multiply

1x = 25.5 \times 10 \\ x = 255mm

(b)100cm = 1m \\ 25.5cm = x

cross multiply

100x = 25.5 \\  \frac{100x}{100}  =  \frac{25.5}{100}  \\ x = 0.255m

hope this helps

A 523.2-W space heater is designed for operation in Germany, where household electrical outlets supply 230 V (rms) service. What
photoshop1234 [79]

Answer:

power = 142.4 W

Explanation:

power of heater in Germany (P₁) = 523.2 W

power of heater in America (P₂) = ?

outlet voltage in Germany (V₁) = 230 V

outlet voltage in America (V₂) = 120 V

  • While in Germany, power = \frac{V₁^{2}}{R}

         523.2 = \frac{230^{2}}{R}

         R = 101.1

  • While in America, also power = \frac{V₂^{2}}{R}

         using the value of R gotten above

         power = \frac{120^{2}}{101.1}

        power = 142.4 W
