The length of a string is L inches. Samantha cuts it into two unequal pieces such that the length of the small piece is 35% of L

.
If the length of the big piece is 24 inches longer than the length of the small piece, what is the ratio of the length of the small piece to the length of the big piece as a fraction in its lowest terms?

Answer:

The shorter piece   x  =  8.4 in

The longer one    y  =  15.6 in

Step-by-step explanation:

If we cut  a string length  L  in to unequal  pieces we get two pieces

first one with length  x  and the other one with length  y

Let call  x  the smaller piece,  then   y = L  -  x will be the longer one

If   x  =  35 %    then

x  =  0,35* L     and

y = L -  x  =  L - 0,35*L      ⇒  y  =  0,65 L     ⇒ y  =  0.65*24

Now if L  =  24  in

x  =  0,35*24          ⇒               x = 8.4 in

and

L  -  x  =  0.65*L      ⇒       L - x  =  0.65*24     y  =  L  -  x  =  15.6 in

as way of verification you can add the length of the two pieces and find:

8.4  +  15.6  = 24 in

In a Match 6 Lotto, winning the jackpot requires that you select six different numbers from 1 to 49, and that the same six numbe
zimovet [89]

Answer:

P=\frac{1}{13,983,816}=7.2\ x\ 10^{-8}

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the following characteristics of the problem:

The numbers that are selected are different between 1 and 49. This means that the same number is not repeated twice.

The order in which the selected numbers appear does not matter:

This means that (123) = (312)

With this in mind, we know that it is a problem of combinations without repetition. It is not calculated using permutations because in the permutations the order of selection is important, for example: (123) is not equal to (312)

The formula for calculating combinations without repetition is:

nCr=\frac{n!}{r!(n-r)!}

Where n is the number of "elements" you can choose and choose r from them

In this case:

n=49

r=6

So:

49C6=\frac{49!}{6!(49-6)!}

49C6=13,983,816\ outcomes

There are 13,983,816 possible results

This is the best method to calculate the number of possible outcomes.

<em><u>"Besides your method, is there another method to determine the number of outcomes?"</u></em>

Sure, make a list of the 13,983,816 different sets of 6 numbers.

To win it is necessary to obtain the 6 winning numbers in any order. The number of ways this can occur is calculated by combining 6 in 6

6C6=\frac{6!}{6!(6-6)!}=1

Finally the probability of winning is:

P=\frac{1}{13,983,816}=7.2\ x\ 10^{-8}

Note that the probability of winning is very close to 0. It is practically impossible to win the lottery, you will probably never win anything. Therefore it is better not to invest money in this

What is the Pythagorean Theorem? Please describe it in detaill!!
Anastaziya [24]

Answer:

Answer is below

Step-by-step explanation:

The Pythagorean Theorem states that the area of the square whose side is the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares on the other two sides. This only works on right triangles. The equation for this is a^{2} +b^{2} = c^{2}. A and B are the shorter side lengths, while C is the hypotenuse. Taking the squares of the two shorter sides will equal the square of the hypotenuse.

Identify all number sets to which the square root of 25 belongs to.
const2013 [10]

Answer:

SOLUTION: Explain why the square root of 25 belongs to 4 subsets of the real numbers , but the square root of 5 only belongs to 1 . tell which subsets each belong to and why .

Step-by-step explanation:

The square root of 25 is 5, which

1. A rational number, since 5 is the ratio of the two integers 5 and 1.

2. An integer since 5 is an element of {...,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,.}

3. A whole number, since 5 is an element of {0,1,2,3.}

4. A counting number, since 5 is an element of {1,2,3,}

The square root of 5 is only

1. An irrational number, since it is not the ratio of any two integers.
