A heavy meterstick has a mass of 1 kg. When the meterstick is thrown like a spear past you, you measure its momentum to be 2mv.

What do you measure its length to be?

Answer:

Its length is measured to be 0.5 m

Explanation:

From theory of relativity (mass variation), we know that:

m = mo/√(1-v²/c²)

Where, m = relative mass

and, mo = rest mass

The momentum of stick while moving, will be:

P = mv

but, it is given in the form of rest mass as:

P = 2(mo)v

thus, by comparison;

2(mo)v = mv

using value of m from theory of relativity;

2(mo)v = (mo)v/√(1-v²/c²)

√(1-v²/c²) = 1/2     ______ eqn(1)

Now, for relativistic length (L), we have the formula from same theory of relativity;

L = (Lo)√(1-v²/c²)

The rest length (Lo) of meter stick is 1 m, and the remaining term on right side √(1-v²/c²), known as Lorentz Factor, can be given by eqn (1), as equal to 1/2.

Thus,

L = (1 m)(1/2)

<u>L = 0.5 m</u>

We can reasonably model a 90-W incandescent lightbulb as a sphere 7.0cm in diameter. Typically, only about 5% of the energy goes
Ronch [10]

Answer:

292.3254055 W/m²

469.26267 V/m

1.56421\times 10^{-6}\ T

Explanation:

P = Power of bulb = 90 W

d = Diameter of bulb = 7 cm

r = Radius = \frac{d}{2}=\frac{7}{2}=3.5\ cm

\epsilon_0 = Permittivity of free space = 8.85\times 10^{-12}\ F/m

c = Speed of light = 3\times 10^8\ m/s

The intensity is given by

I=\frac{P}{A}\\\Rightarrow I=\frac{90}{4\pi 0.035^2}\\\Rightarrow I=5846.50811\ W/m^2

5% of this energy goes to the visible light so the intensity is

I=0.05\times 5846.50811\\\Rightarrow I=292.3254055\ W/m^2

The visible light intensity at the surface of the bulb is 292.3254055 W/m²

Energy density of the wave is

u=\frac{1}{2}\epsilon_0E^2

Energy density is also given by

\frac{I}{c}=\frac{1}{2}\epsilon_0E^2\\\Rightarrow E=\sqrt{\frac{2I}{c\epsilon_0}}\\\Rightarrow E=\sqrt{\frac{2\times 292.3254055}{3\times 10^8\times 8.85\times 10^{-12}}}\\\Rightarrow E=469.26267\ V/m

The amplitude of the electric field at this surface is 469.26267 V/m

Amplitude of a magnetic field is given by

B=\frac{E}{c}\\\Rightarrow B=\frac{469.26267}{3\times 10^8}\\\Rightarrow B=1.56421\times 10^{-6}\ T

The amplitude of the magnetic field at this surface is 1.56421\times 10^{-6}\ T

You are presented with several wires made of the same conducting material. The radius and drift speed are given for each wire in
Zigmanuir [339]

Answer:

d > a > b > c

Explanation:

Given that

a) radius = 3r and drift speed = 1v

b) radius = 4r and drift speed = 0.5v

c) radius = 1r and drift speed = 5v

d) radius = 2r and  drift speed = 2.5v

Based on the above information, the ranking of the wires for reducing the electron current is

As we can see that the radius i.e to be less and the drift speed that is highest so it should be rank one

And, According to that, other options are ranked

Therefore, the ranking would be d > a > b > c
