A particle beam is made up of many protons, each with a kinetic energy of 3.25times 10-15 J. A proton has a mass of 1.673 times

10-27 kg and a charge of 1.602 times 10-19 C. What is the magnitude of a uniform electric field that will stop these protons in a distance of 2 m?

Answer:

   E = 1.024 x 10⁴ V/m

Explanation:

given,

KE of the particle = 3.25 x 10⁻¹⁵ J

mass of the proton = 1.673 x 10⁻²⁷ Kg

charge of the proton = 1.602 x 10⁻¹⁹ C

distance = 2 m

Electric field = ?

we know

work done = KE, and also

W = q V

now,

V = \dfrac{W}{q}

V = \dfrac{3.25\times 10^{-15}}{1.602\times 10^{-19}}

  V = 2.028 x 10⁴ V

now, using equation of electric field

E = \dfrac{V}{d}

E = \dfrac{2.028\times 10^4}{2}

   E = 1.024 x 10⁴ V/m

hence, the magnitude of the electric field is equal to  E = 1.024 x 10⁴ V/m

uppose that the terminal speed of a particular sky diver is 150 km/h in the spread-eagle position and 320 km/h in the nosedive p
AysviL [449]

Answer:

4.55

Explanation:

The terminal speed of a diver is given by:

v_t=\sqrt{\frac{2mg}{C\rho A} } \\\\Where\ m=mass\ of \ driver,d=acceleration\ due\ to\ gravity,C=drag\ \\coefficient,A=cross\ sectional\ Area.\\\\Therefore:\\\\A=\frac{2mg}{C \rho v_t^2} \\\\For\ area\ with\ terminal\ speed\ in\ spread\ angle\ position(v_s):\\\\A_s=\frac{2mg}{C \rho v_s^2} \\\\For\ area\ with\ terminal\ speed\ in\ nose\ dive\ position(v_n):\\\\A_n=\frac{2mg}{C \rho v_n^2}\\\\Therefore\ since\ g,m,C,\rho\ are\ constant:\\\\

\frac{A_s}{A_n}= \frac{\frac{2mg}{C \rho v_s^2}}{\frac{2mg}{C \rho v_n^2}}\\\\\frac{A_s}{A_n}= \frac{v_n}{v_s} \\\\v_n=320\ km/h,v_s=150\ km/h\\\\\frac{A_s}{A_n}=\frac{320^2}{150^2} =4.55

Is the number of protons and electrons the same for a neutral atom of a given element?
pogonyaev
Yes, that's why the atom is neutral.  A proton carries a positive charge,
and an electron carries a negative charge.  When their numbers are
equal, the atom has no 'net' charge, and it's a 'neutral' atom.
