In a nutshell, Machiavelli's The Prince developed an unprecedented political theory, based on practical and concrete experience.

Explanation:

In The Prince, politics is no longer seen through a foundation outside itself (like God, reason or nature), but as a human activity. A concrete activity. What drives politics, according to Machiavelli, is the struggle for the conquest and maintenance of power. Machiavelli is the founder of contemporary political thought, as he was the first to represent and reflect facts "as they are" and no longer "as they should be". The Prince and all of Machiavelli's theory can be placed in a transitional period between the Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
