Coal, natural gas, and petroleum are all non-renewable resources.  Biomass is  considered a renewable resource because it depends on agricultural waste and other things like wood, instead of coal, petroleum, etc.  Biomass is considered to be a fossil fuel replacement, with the consequences of releasing carbon dioxide when burned.
