In his hospitality and tourism course, Henry and his study group are charged with doing an ad campaign on a destination of their
choosing. Henry suggests they think about somewhere cold, as he is sure the rest of the groups will choose tropical locations. Hannah, another group member, is reminded of Canada's Hôtel de Glace, a hotel made entirely up of ice and snow. The group loves the creative and unusual idea that came from ______________ during brainstorming. A. piggybacking
B. encouraging creativity
C. focusing on quantity
D. not criticizing
During the process of brainstorming, one of the subprocess that can occur is the process of piggybacking. Piggybacking refers to picking up on an idea from one of the members of the group and altering it a little either by adding something or by taking something away and sometimes even by expressing the exact opposite. In other words, piggybacking refers to take one idea from one member of the group and modify it to generate new ideas.
In this example, Henry suggests to think about somewhere cold. Hannah is then reminded of the Hôtel de Glace and the group loves the creative and unusual idea. We can see that Hannah took Henry's idea and modified it a little by thinking of somewhere concrete an unusual such as this hotel made of ice. Therefore, this is an example of piggybacking during brainstorming.
