Area of that shape = Area of big rectangle - area of the two little triangles

A = 9 * (3.5 + 2 ) - 2*2/2 - 5*2/2

A = 9 * 5.5 - 2 - 5

A = 49.5 - 7

A = 42.5

Try breaking the shape into smaller shapes that you know the formulas to.
for example, you can see two triangles. The formula for area of a triangle is 1/2(base)(height).
so let's find the area of the left triangle:
1/2(2)(2)= 2 units^2
The right triangle:
1/2(5)(2)= 5 units^2
next, let's to the little square on the bottom. you can see it's height is 2, but in order to know it's width, try looking at the very top line of the big shape. it measures 9 units. the bases of the triangle together make 7 units. this means the top of the square must be 2 units because 9-7=2
the area of a square is length x width, so:
2 x 2= 4 units^2
finally, let's find the area of the large rectangle. the area for rectangles is the same as for squares, so:
9 x 3.5 = 31.5 units^2

Now, you're finally ready to add them together!
2 units^2 + 5 units^2 + 4 units^2 + 31.5 units ^2 =

42.5 units^2

The scale on a map is 1 inch =2 1/2 miles.the distance between two streets on the map is 1 3/4 inches what is the actual distanc
DanielleElmas [232]

Answer:

4 3/8 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

We are told that: the scale on a map is 1 inch =2 1/2 miles.the distance between two streets on the map is 1 3/4 inches

If 1 inches = 2 1/2 miles

1 3/4 inches =

Cross Multiply

1 3/4 × 2 1/2/1

= 7/4 × 5/2

= 35/8

= 4 3/8 miles

The actual distance between these streets is 4 3/8 miles

An angle measures 79.4 degrees more than the measure of its supplementary angle. What is the measure of each angle?
tatyana61 [14]

Answer:

The angles are: 50.3 and 129.7

Step-by-step explanation:

The sum of supplementary angles is 180°.

Let x be one angle then the other angle will be x+79.4

Using the supplementary angle sum

x+x+79.4 = 180\\2x+79.4 = 180\\2x = 180-79.4\\2x = 100.6\\\frac{2x}{2} = \frac{100.6}{2}\\x = 50.3

For the measurement of 2nd angle

x+79.4 => 50.3+79.4 => 129.7

Hence,

The angles are: 50.3 and 129.7

3. Consider the functions f(x) = x2 + 10x – 5, g(x) = 8x + 1, and h(x) = 3x – 4. List the functions from least to greatest value
weeeeeb [17]
x = 3
f(x) = x²+ 10x - 5
f(3) = (3)² + 10(3) - 5
f(3) = 9 + 30 - 5
f(3) = 39 - 5
f(3) = 34

g(x) = 8x + 1
g(3) = 8(3) + 1
g(3) = 25

h(x) = 3x - 4
h(3) = 3(3) - 4
h(3) = 9 - 4
h(3) = 5

x = 6
f(x) = x² + 10x - 5
f(6) = (6)² + 10(6) - 5
f(6) = 36 + 60 - 5
f(6) = 96 - 5
f(6) = 91

g(x) = 8x + 1
g(6) = 8(6) + 1
g(6) = 48 + 1
g(6) = 49

h(x) = 3x - 4
h(6) = 3(6) - 4
h(6) = 18 - 4
h(6) = 14

I would explain to someone that you don't need to do any calculations to know the order of the functions when x is equal to 15 by knowing that f(x) is equal to 370, g(x) is equal to 121, and h(x) is equal to 41 to know that it is easy finding the function of x without calculating the answer.

Which situation below would represent a negative rate of change:
uranmaximum [27]

Answer: John's situation

Step-by-step explanation:

Hi, to answer this question we have to write an equation for each situation.

John’s situation:

The amount of money that John has (y) is equal to his school account (40) minus the product of the number of days (x) and the amount he spends per day( 3)

y =40-3x

As days pass by, John has less money (negative rate of change)

Judy's situation

The amount of money that Judy has in her savings account (y) is equal to the product of the number of days (x) and the amount he saves per day (20/2)

y = x (20/2)
