Answer:

a. pH > 7 ; b. pH > 7 ; c. pH = 7 ; d. pH = 7 ; e. pH < 7 ; f. pH < 7

Explanation:

a. NH₄Br → NH₄⁺  +  Br⁻

The ammonium is the conjugate strong acid from a weak base, so it will react in water. Bromine, is the conjugate weak base from a strong acid and it does not react in water. As the NH₄⁺ react as this:

NH₄⁺  + H₂O  ⇄  NH₃  +  OH⁻   (pH > 7;  brings hydroxyls to the medium)

b. Na₂CO₃  →  2Na⁺  +  CO₃⁻²

The sodium cation is the conjugate weak acid from a strong base, in water in does not react. The carbonate is the conjugate strong base from a weak acid, so it can react in water as this:

CO₃⁻²  + H₂O  ⇄  HCO₃⁻  + OH⁻

HCO₃⁻  + H₂O ⇄ H₂CO₃  + OH⁻ (pH > 7;  brings hydroxyls to the medium)

c. KF → K⁺  + F⁻

Both ions come from a base and a strong acid, so they will be the weak conjugate base and acid. They will not have a reaction in the water, so the solution will be neutral

d. KBr → K⁺  +  Br⁻    (same as before)

e. AlCl₃  →  Al³⁺  +  3Cl⁻

Cl⁻ is a conjugate weak base, from a strong acid and it doesn't react in water. But the Al³⁺ which comes from the Al(OH)₃ is amphoteric, it can act as an acid or a base. In this case, you have a complex and the solution will be acid.

Al³⁺  +  H₂O ⇄ Al(OH)²⁺  + H⁺ (it brings protons to the medium, pH < 7)

f. Cu(NO₃)₂  →  Cu²⁺  +  2NO₃⁻

Ion Cu²⁺ comes from the Cu(OH)₂, a weak base so it is a conjugate strong acid. The nitrate, comes from a strong acid (nitric) , so it is the conjugate weak base of it, it won't react in water.

Cu²⁻ + H₂O  ⇄  Cu(OH)⁺  +  H⁺

You will have a complex, and you are bringing protons to the medium, so pH < 7

Answer:

3.82 x 10²¹ molecules As₂O₃

Explanation:

To find the amount of molecules arsenic (III) oxide (As₂O₃), you need to (1) convert kg to lbs, then (2) convert g As₂O₃ to moles As₂O₃ (via molar mass), and then (3) convert moles to molecules (via Avogadro's number).

1 kilogram = 2.2 lb

Molar Mass (As₂O₃): 2(74.992 g/mol) + 3(15.998 g/mol)

Molar Mass (As₂O₃): 197.978 g/mol

Avogadro's Number:

6.022 x 10²³ molecules = 1 mole

0.0146 g As₂O₃            1 kg                  189 lb
------------------------  x  ---------------  x  ------------------  x   ................
         1 kg                     2.2 lb

       1 mole                6.022 x 10²³ molecules
x  ------------------  x  ---------------------------------------  = 3.82 x 10²¹ molecules As₂O₃
      197.978 g                        1 mole

Answer:

m_{ice} = 65.336\,g

Explanation:

Accoding to the First Law of Thermodynamics, the heat released by the water melts a portion of ice. That is to say:

Q_{water} = Q_{ice}

(100\,g)\cdot \left(4.184\,\frac{J}{kg\cdot ^{\textdegree}C}\right)\cdot (52\,^{\textdegree}C - 0\,^{\textdegree}C) = m_{ice}\cdot \left(333\,\frac{J}{g} \right)

The amount of ice that is melt is:

m_{ice} = 65.336\,g

the average speeds of gas molecules in.cylinders A,b,c,d are 0.01 m/s, 0.005m/s ,0.1 m/s and 0.5 m/s, respectively .which cylind
Darya [45]
<span>The average speed of the gas is related to the kinetic energy of the gas.  The kinetic energy of the gas is also related to the temperature of the gas. If the average speed of the gas is closer to zero, it means that it has very low motion or kinetic energy. This can be inferred that the gas has a very low temperature. At absolute zero, the motion of all the gas molecules stops. This means that the kinetic energy of the gas is also zero. Zero kinetic energy means zero average speed.</span> <span>So, the answer is cylinder B. The average speed of the gas in cylinder B is closest to zero.</span>
