Explanation:

Just remember the formula of acceleration is

acceration= \frac{v - u}{t}

so...

1st one is done...

Initial velocity (u) = 0m/s (It was in rest)

Final velocity (v) = 60m/s

Time (t) = 10s

acceleration (a) = ?

(Remember to always change the units into SI before solving)

Now,

(use the formula)

a = (60-0/10) m/s^2

= 60/ 10 m/s^2

= 6m/s^2

6.

(from 0m/s) so initial velocity (u) =0m/s

(to 40 m/s) so final velocity (v) = 40m/s

time (t) = 4 seconds

acceleration (a) = ?

Now,

a= ( 40-0/4 ) m/s^2

= 40/4 m/s^2

= 10m/s^2

The area of the piston to the master cylinder in a hydraulic braking system of a car is 0.4 square inches. If a force of 6.4 lb
Anit [1.1K]

Answer:

The force applied on one wheel during braking = 6.8 lb

Explanation:

Area of the piston (A) = 0.4 in^{2}

Force applied on the piston(F) = 6.4 lb

Pressure on the piston (P) = \frac{F}{A}

⇒ P = \frac{6.4}{0.4}

⇒ P = 16 \frac{lb}{in^{2} }

This is the pressure inside the cylinder.

Let force applied on the brake pad = F_{1}

Area of the brake pad (A_{1})= 1.7 in^{2}

Thus the pressure on the brake pad (P_{1}) =  \frac{F_{1} }{A_{1} }

When brake is applied on the vehicle the pressure on the piston is equal to pressure on the brake pad.

⇒ P = P_{1}

⇒ 16 = \frac{F_{1} }{A_{1} }

⇒ F_{1} = 16 × A_{1}

Put the value of A_{1} we get

⇒ F_{1} = 16 × 1.7

⇒ F_{1} = 27.2 lb

This the total force applied during braking.

The force applied on one wheel = \frac{F_{1} }{4} = \frac{27.2}{4} = 6.8 lb

⇒ The force applied on one wheel during braking.

Why are objects that fall near earth’s surface rarely in free fall?
Sloan [31]

Answer:

Because of the presence of air resistance

Explanation:

When an object is in free fall, ideally there is only one force acting on it:

- The force of gravity, W = mg, that pushes the object downward (m= mass of the object, g = acceleration of gravity)

However, this is true only in absence of air (so, in a vacuum). When air is present, it exerts a frictional force on the object (called air resistance) with upward direction (opposite to the motion of free fall) and whose magnitude is proportional to the speed of the object.

Therefore, it turns out that as the object falls, its speed increases, and therefore the air resistance acting against it increases too; as a result, the at some point the air resistance becomes equal (in magnitude) to the force of gravity: when this happens, the net acceleration of the object becomes zero, and so the speed of the object does not increase anymore. This speed reached by the object is called terminal velocity.
