Legend says that archimedes, in determining whether or not the king’s crown was made of pure gold, measured its volume by the wa

ter displacement method. if the crown weighs 600 gm in air, what would its "weight be in water", necessary to prove that it is pure gold?

The volume of water that is displaced by the crown is equal to the volume of the crown so by measuring the displaced water volume one can simply determine the density of the crown which is it's mass divided by its volume. if it's not equal to 19.32 per cubic centimeters (which is the density of the pure gold) we can conclude that it has impurities

A giraffe, standing 6.00 m tall, bites a branch off a tree to chew on the leaves
Lemur [1.5K]

Answer:

1.11 s.

Explanation:

From the question given above, the following data were obtained:

Height (H) = 6 m

Acceleration due to gravity (g) = 9.8 m/s²

Time (t) =.?

The time taken for the branch to hit the ground can be obtained as follow:

H = ½gt²

6 = ½ × 9.8 × t²

6 = 4.9 × t²

Divide both side by 4.9

t² = 6/4.9

Take the square root of both side

t = √(6/4.9)

t = 1.11 s

Therefore, it will take 1.11 s for the branch to hit the ground.

Coherent light with wavelength = 600 nm falls on two very narrow closely spaced slits and the interference pattern is observed o
Mrac [35]

Answer:

The distance between the two slits is 1.2mm.

Explanation:

The physicist Thomas Young establishes, through its double slit experiment, a relationship between the interference (constructive or destructive) of a wave, the separation between the slits, the distance between the two slits to the screen and the wavelength.

\Lambda x = L\frac{\lambda}{d}  (1)

Where \Lambda x is the distance between two adjacent maxima, L is the distance of the screen from the slits, \lambda is the wavelength and d is the separation between the slits.

If light pass through two slits a diffraction pattern in a screen will be gotten, at which each bright region corresponds to a crest, a dark region to a trough, as consequence of constructive interference and destructive interference in different points of its propagation to the screen.

Therefore, d can be isolated from equation 1.

d = L\frac{\lambda}{\Lambda x}  (2)

Notice that it is necessary to express L and \lambda in units of millimeters.

L = 4m \cdot \frac{1000mm}{1m} ⇒ 4000mm

\lambda = 600nm \cdot \frac{1mm}{1x10^{6}nm} ⇒ 0.0006mm

d = (4000mm)\frac{0.0006mm}{2mm}

d = 1.2mm

Hence, the distance between the two slits is 1.2mm.
