Answer;

Sodium (Na)

A single sodium atom has 11 protons, 11 electrons, and 12 neutrons.

Explanation;

For any neutral atom, the number of protons is the same as the number of electrons. If an atom loses or gains electrons, it is called an ion.

A sodium atom contains 11 protons, so its atomic number is 11. Mass number is the total of the protons and neutrons together, thus sodium has a mass number of 23.

A. V is Vanadium and it has 23 electrons, so it couldn't be your answer.
B. Na is sodium and has 11 electrons, so it is your answer
C. Mg is Magnesium and it has 12 electrons, so it couldn't be your answer either.
D. Se is Selenium and it has 34 electrons, so it couldn't be your answer.
So your answer is B.

The speed of light in water is 2.25 x 108 m/s. What is true about the index of refraction of water?
djverab [1.8K]
Light speed in water is 2.25 times 10^5 m/s so the index of refraction is higher than the index of refraction of light in a vacuum which is 1.0. (speed in vacuum for light is 300,000 km/s)

Index of refraction of light in water is 3.0 time 10^5 m/s divided by 2.25 times 10^5 m/s = 1.33.

Hope this is what you wanted.

Which of the following are NOT functions of the spinal cord?
maksim [4K]

Answer:

Reflexes are not a function of the spinal cord.

Explanation:

The spinal cord is part of the central nervous system and is made up of neurons that go along it (from the end of the brain stem almost to the bottom of the spine).

The spinal cord receives incoming messages from the peripheral nervous system (including the sensory neurons) and pass on messages from the brain to efferent neurons (motor neurons at muscles).

The spinal cord contributes to learning as it passes on the info received from sensory neurons (that there is an obstacle in the path) to the brain and passes on the response from the brain to the muscles (to lift the foot up higher).

The spinal cord is essential for integration as it passes on sensory information  to the brain to determine motor output.

Reflexes are when sensory information is quickly sent straight to motor neurons to move. It does not need to go to the brain (hence does not need to go to the spinal cord) for the reaction as it would be too slow. This is seen when someone who is paraplegic (paralysed at lower torso) can still move their leg in response to the doctor tapping their knee even when they cannot forcibly move their legs.

Therefore reflexes are not a function of the spinal cord.
