Rail guns can accelerate an object by using the magnetic force on a current carrying device. A rail gun is constructed to accele

rate a length of copper wire, having a radius of 5.1 x 10-4 m and density,  = 8960 kg/m3. The rails have a length L = 1.0 m and are in a constant magnetic field B = 2.0 T, oriented perpendicularly to the plane defined by the rails. The wire forms an electrical connection across the rails at one end of the rails. The wire starts from rest at this end of the rails, and when triggered, a current of 10 KA flows through the wire. Calculate the speed of the wire as it leaves the rail. {2.34 km/s}

Answer:

v = 2.33 103 m / s

Explanation:

The magnetic force is

       F = q v x B = i L X B

Where L is wire length and B the magnetic field

Let's calculate the value of the force

       F = i L B

Now we can calculate the acceleration using Newton's second law

     F = m a

     a = F / m

Density is

    ρ = m / V

    V = π r² L

    ρ = m / π r² L

   m = ρ π r² L

    a = I L B / (ρ π r² L)

    a = 10 10³ 2.0 / (8960 π (5.1 10⁻⁴)²)

    a = 2.73 10⁶ m/s²

Having the acceleration we use the kinematic equation

     v² = v₀² + 2 a x

     v = √ 2 ax

     v = √ (2  2,723 10⁶  1.0)

     v = 2.33 103 m / s

At a certain point in space there is a potential of 400 v. what is the potential energy of a 2-μc charge at that point in space?
attashe74 [19]

The potential energy of a 2-μc charge at that point in space is 8*10^{-4} joules.

Given,

V=400v, q=2-μc=2*10^{-6},

U(potential energy)=V*q=400*2*10^{-6}= 8*10^{-4} joules.

Potential energy

The energy that an item retains due to its position in relation to other objects, internal tensions, electric charge, or other reasons is known as potential energy in physics. The gravitational potential energy of an object is based on its mass and the distance from the centre of mass of another object. Other common types of potential energy include the elastic potential energy of an extended spring and the electric potential energy of an electric charge in an electric field. The joule, denoted by the sign J, is the SI's definition of an energy unit.

The vectors that are described as gradients of a particular scalar function known as potential can be used to represent these forces, also known as conservative forces, at any location in space.

How much work is done if you push a 200 N box across a floor with a force of 50 N for a distance of 20m
vovikov84 [41]

Answer: 1000 J

The Work W done by a Force F refers to the release of potential energy from a body that is moved by the application of that force to overcome a resistance along a path.

It should be noted that it is a scalar magnitude, and its unit in the International System of Units is the Joule (like energy). Therefore, 1 Joule is the work done by a force of 1 Newton when moving an object, in the direction of the force, along 1 meter:

1J=(1N)(1m)=Nm

Now, when the applied force is constant and the direction of the force and the direction of the movement are parallel, the equation to calculate it is:

W=(F)(d) (1)

When they are not parallel, both directions form an angle, let's call it \alpha. In that case the expression to calculate the Work is:

W=Fdcos{\alpha} (2)

For example, in order to push the 200 N box across the floor, you have to apply a force along the distance d to overcome the resistance of the weight of the box (its 200 N).

In this case both (the force and the distance in the path) are parallel, so the work W performed is the product of the force exerted to push the box F=50N by the distance traveled d. as shown in equation (1).

Hence:

W=(50N)(20m)

W=1000Nm=1000J >>>>This is the work
