How to use elimination?

Mathematics

You try to find the number and variables that cancels out or equal to 0 when added together between 2 equations, so if you choose to eliminate the x of the equations, lets say the first  equation has -2x in its given, make sure the next equation has 2x, then you add them together which will equal 0. Elimination is basically making sure  your desirable  variable equal to 0 when added together.

What is 1/2 to 1/4 equals
sergey [27]

Do you mean 1/2 of 1/4 if so it’s just timsing the numerator by the numerator and the denominator by the denominator. So, 1 x 1 = 1 and 2 x 4 = 8

Therefore it’s 1/8!

If you didn’t understand I’ll gladly elaborate!

Step by step explanation
vodka [1.7K]

Answer: x = 4 and y = -3

Step-by-step explanation:

2x + 4y = -4

2x = -4 - 4y

x = -2 - 2y

Now that we have solved the first equation for x, we plug (-2 - 2y) into the other equation in place of x and then solve for y.

3(-2 -2y) + 5y = -3

-6 - 6y + 5y = -3

-y = 3

y = -3

Now that we know y, we plug it into the original equation and solve for x.

2x + 4(-3) = -4

2x + -12 = -4

2x = 8

x = 4

You can check the answer by plugging both x and y into either of the original equations.

Does this graph show a function explain how you know
galina1969 [7]
No, the graph fails the vertical line test. In a function, each x value only has one y value. The y value can have more than one x value in a function
