The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) provides a toll-free help line for taxpayers to call in and get answers to questions as they

prepare their tax returns. In recent years, the IRS has been inundated with taxpayer calls and has redesigned its phone service as well as posted answers to frequently asked questions on its website.†Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer, January 7, 2010 According to a report by a taxpayer advocate, callers using the new system can expect to wait on hold for an unreasonably long time of 12 minutes before being able to talk to an IRS employee. Suppose you select a sample of 50 callers after the new phone service has been implemented; the sample results show a mean waiting time of 10 minutes before an IRS employee comes on the line. Based upon data from past years, you decide it is reasonable to assume that the standard deviation of waiting time is 8 minutes. Using your sample results, can you conclude that the actual mean waiting time turned out to be significantly less than the 12-minute claim made by the taxpayer advocate? Use α = 0.05

Answer:

Given confidence level=0.05

Hence the significance level=1-0.05=99.5

As standard deviation is 8 min,

Based on above results,we conclude that actual means is significantly less than 12 minute.

Find the exact value of sin2 theta given sin theta =5/13, 90°<theta <180°
Zepler [3.9K]
Now, we know that 90°< θ <180°, that simply means the angle θ is in the II quadrant, where sine is positive and cosine is negative.

\bf sin(\theta )=\cfrac{\stackrel{opposite}{5}}{\stackrel{hypotenuse}{13}}\impliedby \textit{now let's find the \underline{adjacent side}}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;\textit{using the pythagorean theorem}\\\\&#10;c^2=a^2+b^2\implies \pm\sqrt{c^2-b^2}=a\qquad &#10;\begin{cases}&#10;c=hypotenuse\\&#10;a=adjacent\\&#10;b=opposite\\&#10;\end{cases}

\bf \pm\sqrt{13^2-5^2}=a\implies \pm\sqrt{144}=a\implies \pm 12 =a \implies \stackrel{II~quadrant}{-12=a}&#10;\\\\\\&#10;therefore \qquad cos(\theta )=\cfrac{\stackrel{adjacent}{-12}}{\stackrel{hypotenuse}{13}}&#10;\\\\&#10;-------------------------------\\\\&#10;sin(2\theta )\implies 2sin(\theta )cos(\theta )\implies 2\left(\frac{5}{13}  \right)\left( \frac{-12}{13} \right)\implies -\cfrac{120}{169}

The following graphs have a scale assigned to them: The area of each grid
dezoksy [38]

The graphs that are density curves for a continuous random variable are: Graph A, C, D and E.

<h3>How to determine the density curves?</h3>

In Geometry, the area of the density curves for a continuous random variable must always be equal to one (1). Thus, we would test this rule in each of the curves:

Area A = (1 × 5 + 1 × 3 + 1 × 2) × 0.1

Area A = 10 × 0.1

Area A = 1 sq. units (True).

For curve B, we have:

Area B = (3 × 3) × 0.1

Area B = 9 × 0.1

Area B = 0.9 sq. units (False).

For curve C, we have:

Area C = (3 × 4 - 2 × 1) × 0.1

Area C = 10 × 0.1

Area C = 1 sq. units (False).

For curve D, we have:

Area D = (1 × 4 + 1 × 3 + 1 × 2 + 1 × 1) × 0.1

Area D = 10 × 0.1

Area D = 1 sq. units (True).

For curve E, we have:

Area E = (1/2 × 4 × 5) × 0.1

Area E = 10 × 0.1

Area E = 1 sq. units (True).
