Deer ticks can carry both Lyme disease and human granulocytic ehrlichiosis (HGE). In a study of ticks in the Midwest, it was fou

nd that 16% carried Lyme disease, 10% had HE, and that 10% of the ticks that had either Lyme disease or HGE carried both diseases.(a) What is the probability that a tick carries both Lyme disease (L) and HE (H)?(b) What is the conditional probability that a tick has HE given that it has Lyme disease?

Answer:

a)0.024

b)0.148

Explanation:

Let 's represent the set of deer ticks Carrying Lyme disease with L and the set of deer ticks carrying Human Granulocytic Ehrlichiosis with H

Given:

P(L) = 0.16

P(H) = 0.10

P(L n H) = 0.1 ·P( L u H )

Hence, P( L u H) = 10 ·P( L nH)

(a)

Hence. using the equation. P(L U H) = P(L) + P(H) - P(L n H)

Hence, 10 · P(L n H ) = 0.16 + 0.1 - P(L n H )

Hence, 11 · P(L n H) = 0.16 + 0.1 = 0.26

Hence, P(L n H) = 0.26/11=0.024

(b)

We know that condition probability P(H ║ L) = p(L n H)/P(L)

hence, P(H ║ L) =(0.26/11)/0.16 =0.148

A ball is thrown vertically upward with a speed of 12.0 m/s. (<br> a. How high does it rise?
sdas [7]
It rises till all of its Kinetic energy is converted into potential energy.

so, mgh=(1/2)m(v^2)

so, h=(v^2)/2g = 12*12/(2*9.81)=7.34 m

Charlotte is driving at 66.5 mi/h and receives a text message. She looks down at her phone and takes her eyes off the road for 3
Alborosie

Answer:

the distance traveled by Charlotte in feet is 338.44 ft

Explanation:

Given;

speed of Charlotte, u = 66.5 mi/h

time of motion, t = 3.47 s

The distance traveled by Charlotte in feet is calculated as;

Distance = Speed \ \times \ time \\\\D = ut\\\\D = (\frac{66.5 \ mi}{h} \times  \frac{5280 \ ft}{1 \ mi} \times \frac{1 \ h}{3600 \ s} )(3.47 \ s)\\\\D = 338.44 \ ft

Therefore, the distance traveled by Charlotte in feet is 338.44 ft

A potential difference of 24 V is applied to a 150-ohm resistor. How much current flows through the resistor?
Lady_Fox [76]

Given :- A resistor of 150 ohm, hence Resistance (R) = 150 ohm

Potential Difference (v) = 24 V

Current (I) = ?

V = IR

24 = I × 150

I = 24/150

I = 0.16 ampere

hope it helps!
