Explanation: Lewis dot structures are the structures which represent the valence electrons of an atom. The dots in the structure are considered as the valence electrons.

First 18 elements of the periodic table are Hydrogen(H), Helium (He), Lithium (Li), Beryllium (Be), Boron (B), Carbon (C), Nitrogen (N), Oxygen (O), Fluorine (F), Neon(Ne), Sodium (Na), Magnesium (Mg), Aluminium (Al), Silicon (Si), Phosphorous (P), Sulfur (S), Chlorine (Cl) and Argon(Ar).

The valence electrons are the electrons which are present in the outermost shell of an atom. The electronic configuration of the elements are:

Hydrogen (H) = 1s^1 ; Valence electrons = 1

Helium (He) = 1s^2 ; Valence electrons = 2

Lithium (Li) = 1s^22s^1 ; Valence electrons = 1

Beryllium (Be) = 1s^22s^2 ; Valence electrons = 2

Boron (B) = 1s^22s^22p^1 ; Valence electrons = 3

Carbon (C) = 1s^22s^22p^2 ; Valence electrons = 4

Nitrogen (N) = 1s^22s^22p^3 ; Valence electrons = 5

Oxygen (O) = 1s^22s^22p^4 ; Valence electrons = 6

Fluorine (F) = 1s^22s^22p^5 ; Valence electrons = 7

Neon (Ne) = 1s^22s^22p^6 ; Valence electrons = 8

Sodium (Na) = 1s^22s^22p^63s^1 ; Valence electrons = 1

Magnesium (Mg) = 1s^22s^22p^63s^2 ; Valence electrons = 2

Aluminium (Al) = 1s^22s^22p^63s^23p^1 ; Valence electrons = 3

Silicon (Si) = 1s^22s^22p^63s^23p^2 ; Valence electrons = 4

Phosphorous (P) = 1s^22s^22p^63s^23p^3 ; Valence electrons = 5

Sulfur (S) = 1s^22s^22p^63s^23p^4 ; Valence electrons = 6

Chlorine(Cl) = 1s^22s^22p^63s^23p^5 ; Valence electrons = 7

Argon (Ar) = 1s^22s^22p^63s^23p^6 ; Valence electrons = 8

  • Elements hydrogen and helium belong to period 1 of the period table, so the lewis dot structures will have maximum of 2 electrons
  • Elements from lithium to neon belong to period 2 and the lewis dot structures will have maximum of 8 electrons.
  • Elements from sodium and argon belong to the period 3 of the periodic table, and will have maximum of 8 electrons in their lewis dot structures.

Lewis dot structures are attached below.

How to I find the number of electrons in and Atom?
Inessa [10]
Look at the atomic number of an element on the periodic table which is the smaller number.
The atomic number shows the number of protons/electrons so the number of protons and electrons are the same.
Whereas the mass number of an element (the other number) is the number of protons + neutrons.

When a 6.00 g sample of KBr is dissolved in water in a calorimeter that has a total heat capacity of 2.71 kJ ⋅ K − 1 , the tempe
Umnica [9.8K]

Answer:

Molar heat enthalpy of KBr = -19.89 kJ/mol

Explanation:

Change in temperature (Δt) = 0.370 K

Heat capacity = 2.71 kJ ⋅ K^-1

Heat absorbed by calorimeter = heat capacity × change in temperature

                                               = 2.71× 0.370

                                               = 1.0027 kJ

Molar mass of KBr = 119 g/mol

No. of moles of KBr = 6.00/119

                               = 0.0504 mol

Heat absorbed by the calorimeter is given by KBr.

Now calculate the heat released by per mol of KBr as follows:

Heat released by per mol of KBr = 1.0027 kJ / 0.0504 mol

                                                   =19.89 kJ/mol

Heat is released therefore, sign will be negative.

Molar heat enthalpy of KBr = -19.89 kJ/mol

explain in terms of electronegativity difference Y the bond between hydrogen and oxygen in a water molecule is more polar than t
love history [14]

Answer: More the electronegativity difference, more polar will be the bond.

Explanation: The electronegativity is defined as the tendency of an element to attract a shared pair of electron towards itself in a chemical bond.

Polarity of the bond is described by the electronegativity difference between the elements making the bond. More the electronegativity difference, more polar is the bond.

The electronegativities of oxygen, hydrogen and nitrogen are:

For Oxygen : 3.44

For Hydrogen : 2.1

For Nitrogen : 3.04

In H_2O

Electronegativity difference between oxygen and hydrogen = (3.44 - 2.1) = 1.34

In NH_3

Electronegativity difference between nitrogen and hydrogen = (3.04 - 2.1) = 0.94

As, the Electronegativity difference between oxygen and hydrogen is more, therefore water molecule is more polar.
