Why was Pearl Harbor an important event in history?

Pearl Harbor was a major event in history because it marked the beginning of WW ll, the Japanese had told on of the people that is part of the government that they were going to attack at a certain time in the day that they should be prepared but the person they told failed to reach Pearl Harbor and warn them of the attack so because of that the US was not prepared to fight, the Japanese were hoping that the US would put up a fight because the Japanese thought the US had got the message but did not

i forgot what part of the gov they told i have to ask my teacher again but thier ya go :)
