Answer:

30.63 °C will be the final temperature of the water.

Explanation:

Heat lost by iron will be equal to heat gained by the water

-Q_1=Q_2

Mass of iron = m_1=20 g

Specific heat capacity of iron = c_1=0.444 J/g^oC

Initial temperature of the iron = T_1=120^oC

Final temperature = T_2=T

Q_1=m_1c_1\times (T-T_1)

Volume of water = 300 ml

Density of water = 1 g/mL

Mass of water= m_2=300 mL\times 1 g/mL = 300 g

Specific heat capacity of water= c_2=4.184 J/g^oC

Initial temperature of the water = T_3=30^oC

Final temperature of water = T_2=T

Q_2=m_2c_2\times (T-T_3)

-Q_1=Q_2

-(m_1c_1\times (T-T_1))=m_2c_2\times (T-T_3)

On substituting all values:

we get, T = 30.63°C

30.63 °C will be the final temperature of the water.

You wish to prepare a buffer consisting of acetic acid and sodium acetate with a total acetic acetate plus acetate concentration
vovangra [49]

Ans: Acetic acid = 90.3 mM and Sodium acetate = 160 mM

Given:

Acetic Acid/Sodium Acetate buffer of pH = 5.0

Let HA = acetic acid

A- = sodium acetate

Total concentration [HA] + [A-] = 250 mM ------(1)

pKa(acetic acid) = 4.75

Based on Henderson-Hasselbalch equation

pH = pKa + log[A-]/[HA]

[A-]/[HA] = 10^(pH-pKa) = 10^(5-4.75) = 10^0.25 = 1.77

[A-] = 1.77[HA] -----(2)

From (1) and (2)

[HA] + 1.77[HA] = 250 mM

[HA] = 250/2.77 = 90.25 mM

[A-] = 1.77(90.25) = 159.74 mM

If 2.0 ml of 6.0m hcl is used to make a 500.0-ml aqueous solution, what is the molarity of the dilute solution?
svp [43]
Make sure that you understand what they are asking you from this question, as it can be confusing, but the solution is quite simple. They are stating that they want you to calculate the final concentration of 6.0M HCl once a dilution has been made from 2.0 mL to 500.0 mL. They have given us three values, the initial concentration, initial volume and the final volume. So, we are able to employ the following equation:

C1V1 = C2V2
(6.0M)(2.0mL) = C2(500.0mL)
Therefore, the final concentration, C2 = 0.024M.
