Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The population in 2003= 47000

Since the population increase by 1200 every year,

in 2004 the population will be 47000+1200

in 2005 the population will be 47000+(1200+1200) which is the same as

47000+2(1200) where 2 is 2 years after 2003,

Therefore the population x years after 2003 is 47000+x(1200).

P= 47000+1200x

b) The population at 2009 which is 6 years after 2003 will be

47000+(1200)*6=47000+7200= 54200

The population at 2009 is 54200,

The data shows the speed, in miles per hour, of motorists on a stretch of road.
melomori [17]

Answer:

i. 18 miles per hour is an outlier

ii. the outlier decreases the mean speed

Step-by-step explanation:

An outlier in a given data is one of the values that is far greater or lesser compared to others. It affect the mean and standard deviation of a given data significantly.

From the given data, 18 is far too small compared to other values. This is certainly an outlier. This would affect the mean speed by decreasing the value.

An interquartile range is a measure of differences among data by dividing a set of given data into quartile. Increasing the value of the outlier would increase the interquartile range.

9) In the standard co-ordinate system, which of the following points in the greatest distance from origin? A. (-4, -1) B. (-3, 3
ludmilkaskok [199]

The point with the greatest distance to the origin is given by:

B. (-3, 3).

<h3>What is the distance between two points?</h3>

Suppose that we have two points, (x_1,y_1) and (x_2,y_2). The distance between them is given by:

D = \sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

The origin is given by point (0,0), hence the distance of a point (x,y) to the origin is given by:

D = sqrt(x² + y²).

Hence the distances for each point given in the problem are:

  • A. Distance = sqrt((-4)² + (-1)²) = sqrt(17).
  • B. Distance = sqrt((-3)² + (3)²) = sqrt(18).
  • C. Distance = sqrt((4)² + 0²) = sqrt(16).
  • D. Distance = sqrt((2)² + 3²) = sqrt(13).

Hence option B has the greatest distance.

Y=x^2 -9x at x = 4 Find an equation of the tangent an an equation of the normal
Montano1993 [528]

The tangent line to <em>y</em> = <em>f(x)</em> at a point (<em>a</em>, <em>f(a)</em> ) has slope d<em>y</em>/d<em>x</em> at <em>x</em> = <em>a</em>. So first compute the derivative:

<em>y</em> = <em>x</em>² - 9<em>x</em>   →   d<em>y</em>/d<em>x</em> = 2<em>x</em> - 9

When <em>x</em> = 4, the function takes on a value of

<em>y</em> = 4² - 9•4 = -20

and the derivative is

d<em>y</em>/d<em>x</em> (4) = 2•4 - 9 = -1

Then use the point-slope formula to get the equation of the tangent line:

<em>y</em> - (-20) = -1 (<em>x</em> - 4)

<em>y</em> + 20 = -<em>x</em> + 4

<em>y</em> = -<em>x</em> - 24

The normal line is perpendicular to the tangent, so its slope is -1/(-1) = 1. It passes through the same point, so its equation is

<em>y</em> - (-20) = 1 (<em>x</em> - 4)

<em>y</em> + 20 = <em>x</em> - 4

<em>y</em> = <em>x</em> - 24
