Chemistry

Answer:

0.51g

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Volume of nitrogen gas = 744mL

Unknown:

Mass of sodium metal produced = ?

Solution:

Let us assume that the gas, nitrogen was collected at STP which is the standard temperature and pressure, we can easily find its number of moles.

            Number of moles  = \frac{volume of gas}{22.4}

since the gas volume given is 744mL = 0.744mL

   Therefore input the variables;

         Number of moles  = \frac{0.744}{22.4}   = 0.03moles

Now that we know the number of moles of the gas, let us revisit the reaction equation:

      2NaN₃   →   2Na    +  3N₂

It good to ensure that the reaction is balanced;

         3 mole of nitrogen gas is produced with 2 moles of Na

        0.03 mole of nitrogen gas will be produce with \frac{0.03 x 2}{3}  = 0.02mole

So;

       Using;

                    mass = number of moles x molar mass

let us solve for the mass of Na;

                   molar mass of Na = 23g/mol

                  mass  = 0.02 x 23  = 0.51g

When 1 mol CS2(l) forms from its elements at 1 atm and 25°C, 89.7 kJ of heat is absorbed, and it takes 27.7 kJ to vaporize 1 mol
Kitty [74]

Answer:

There is 117.4 kJ of heat absorbed

Explanation:

Step 1: Data given

Number of moles CS2 = 1 mol

Temperature = 25° = 273 +25 = 298 Kelvin

Heat absorbed = 89.7 kJ

It takes 27.7 kJ to vaporize 1 mol of the liquid

Step 2: Calculate the heat that is absorbed

C(s) + 2S(s) → CS2(l)    ΔH = 89.7 kJ  (positive since heat is absorbed)

CS2(l) → CS2(g)           ΔH = 27.7 kJ  (positive since heat is absorbed)

We should balance the equations, before summing, but since they are already balanced, we don't have to change anything.

C(s) + 2S(s)---> CS2 (g)

ΔH = 89.7 + 27.7 = 117.4 kJ

There is 117.4 kJ of heat absorbed

when 42.66 grams of PCl5 react with excess P4O10 the amount of product formed is 47.22 grams of POCl3. What is the percent yield
icang [17]

Percent yield or yield is mathematically defined as:

Yield = Actual amount / Theoretical amount

So to solve the yield, let us first calculate the theoretical amount of POCl3 produced. The balanced chemical reaction for this is:

6 PCl5 + P4O10  --->  10 POCl3

Since P4O10 is stated to be supplied in large amount, then PCl5 becomes the limiting reactant.

So we calculate for POCl3 based on PCl5. To do this let us convert the amount into moles: (molar mass PCl5 = 208.24 g/mol)

n PCl5 = 42.66 grams / (208.24 g/mol)

n PCl5 = 0.205 mol

Now based on the stoichiometric ratio of the reaction:

n POCl3 = 0.205 mol (10 POCl3 / 6 PCl5)
n POCl3 = 0.3414 mol POCl3

Converting to mass (molar mass POCl3 = 153.33 g/mol)

m POCl3 = 0.3414 mol (153.33 g/mol)

m POCl3 = 52.35 g

Calculating for yield:

Yield = 47.22 g/ 52.35 g

Yield = 0.902

%Yield = 90.2 %                      (ANSWER)

Can two (or more) types of matter occupy the same space at the same time?
frez [133]

The general properties of matter result from its relationship with mass and space. ... Because it occupies space, all matter has volume and impenetrability, since two objects cannot occupy the same space simultaneously.

What is the mole of 125 mg of Na? How many Na atoms?
Crank
(125 mg Na) x (1 g/1000mg) x (1 mol of Na/22.99 g) = 5.43 E -3 mols of Na

5.43 E -3 mols x 6.022 E 23 = 3.27 E 21 Na atoms
