Answer:

( a ) soluble

( b ) soluble

( c ) insoluble

Explanation:

Solubility is determined by the principle , "like dissolves like" .

i.e. , if a compound is polar then it will dissolve in a polar compound only , and

if a compound is non - polar then it will dissolve in a non - polar compound only .

Hence , from the question ,

( a )

Methanol and water as we know are both polar species , hence , according to the principle - soluble .

( b )

Hexane and cyclohexane

Both the species are polar species , hence , according to the principle - soluble .

( c )

Hexane and water

In this case ,

Hexane , is non polar and water is polar , hence , the mixture will be non soluble .

Monosodium glutamate (NaC5H8NO4) is used extensively as a flavor enhancer what is its percent composition
tensa zangetsu [6.8K]

Answer:

% sodium= 13.6 % sodium

% carbon= 35.5 % carbon

% hydrogen= 4.7% hydrogen

% nitrogen = 8.3% nitrogen

% oxygen = 37.8 % oxygen

Explanation:

To find its percent composition means that we are to find to find the percentage of each of the constituents of the compound present.

The molar mass of monosodium glutamate is 169.11 gmol-1

Hence;

Percent of sodium= 23 gmol-1/169.11 gmol-1 × 100 = 13.6 % sodium

Percent of Carbon= 60 gmol-1/169.11 gmol-1 ×100 = 35.5 % carbon

Percent of hydrogen= 8/169.11 gmol-1 ×100 = 4.7% hydrogen

Percent nitrogen = 14/169.11 gmol-1 × 100 = 8.3% nitrogen

Percent oxygen = 64/169.11 gmol-1 ×100 = 37.8 % oxygen

Why is the equation: 4Fe+ 3O2 → 2Fe2O unbalanced for rust?
ahrayia [7]

Explanation:

Because two sides don't have an equal number of O atoms. The left side has 6 O atoms (3*2) while the right side has only 1 O atom. to balance the equation, you need an equal number of atoms on both sides.

Which element below is the most reactive?
const2013 [10]

Answer: Chlorine

Explanation: Chlorine has an atomic number of 17 and a configuration of 2, 8, 7. In the outermost shell, it has 7 seven electrons which means that it needs just one more electron to attain an octet configuration in that shell. Therefore it's can react quickly with any nearby nucleophile. Chlorine is more stable as a molecule (Cl2) because that way, it's in a covalent bond with itself and each chlorine atom in the molecule attains an octet. It's is also more stable as a Chloride ion (Cl-). Yes, Hydrogen (H) has a single electron in it's single shell and requires just one electron to attain a stable duplet configuration but it's not as reactive as the Cl because that single electron is closer to the nucleus and it's held firmly by the nuclear charge preventing it from being highly reactive. Unlike hydrogen, chlorine atom has 2 more shells shielding the outermost shell from the effect of the nuclear charge, hence, it's willing to accept electron from a donor. Oxygen need 2 more electrons to attain an octet in it's outermost shell considering it's configuration of 2,6. But in the presence of electrons, Cl would pick up electron faster than Oxygen since it requires just one. Neon on the other hand is a noble gas. It's shells are completely filled. considering it's configuration of 2,8, it has no space to accept electrons and cannot donate either. Hence, no room for reactivity.
