Bornite (Cu3FeS3) is a copper ore used in the production of copper. When heated, the following reaction occurs. 2 Cu3FeS3(s) + 7

O2(g) 6 Cu(s) + 2 FeO(s) + 6 SO2(g) If 3.24 metric tons of bornite is reacted with excess O2 and the process has an 78.8% yield of copper, what mass of copper is produced?

0.158 \; \text{tonnes}

2 \; \text{Cu}_3 \text{FeS}_3\; (s) + 7 \; \text{O}_2 \to 6 \; \text{Cu}\; (s) + 2\; \text{FeO}\; (s) + 6 \; \text{SO}_2 \; (g)

Bornite \text{Cu}_3 \text{FeS}_3 has a molar mass of 342.65 \; \text{g} \cdot \text{mol}^{-1}. 3.24 \; \text{tonnes}= 3.24 \times 10^{6} \; \text{g} of bornite would thus contain 3.24 \times 10^{6} / 342.65 \approx 9.46 \times 10^{3} \; \text{mol} formula units of this substance. Each <em>two</em> formula unit of bornite combusts to produce <em>six</em> formula units of copper metal \text{Cu} as seen in the equation; 9.46 \times 10^{3} \; \text{mol} of bornite would therefore produce 2/6 \times 9.46 \times 10^{3} \; \text{mol} = 3.15 \times 10^{3} \; \text{mol} of copper, which corresponds to a theoretical yield of m = n \cdot M = 3.15 \times 10^{3} \; \text{mol} \times 63.55 \; \text{g} \cdot \text{mol}^{-1} = 2.00 \times 10^{5} \; \text{g}.

\text{Actual Yield} = \text{Theoretical Yield} \times \text{Percentage Yield}.

Thus the actual yield of copper: 2.00 \times 10^{5} \; \text{g} \times 78.8 \% = 1.58 \times 10^{5} \; \text{g} = 0.158 \; \text{tonnes}

Answer:

50 g of K₂CO₃ are needed

Explanation:

How many grams of K₂CO₃ are needed to make 500 g of a 10% m/m solution?

We analyse data:

500 g is the mass of the solution we want

10% m/m is a sort of concentration,  in this case means that 10 g of solute (K₂CO₃) are contained in 100 g of solution

Therefore we can solve this, by a rule of three:

In 100 g of solution we have 10 g of K₂CO₃

In 500 g of solution we may have, (500 . 10) / 100 = 50 g of K₂CO₃

Calculate the vapor pressure at 25 ?c of hexane above the solution. the vapor pressure of pure hexane at 25 ?c is 151 torr.
Studentka2010 [4]
One of the many ways in order to solve for the vapor pressure of pure components at a given temperature is through the Antoine's equation which is written below,
                                    P = 10^(A - B/C+T)
where A, B, and C are constants and T is the temperature in °C and P is the vapor pressure in mm Hg.
For hexane,
                             A = 7.01
                             B = 1246.33
                             C = 232.988

Substituting the known values,
                            P = 10^(7.01 - 1246.33/232.988+25)
                             <em> P = 151.199 mm Hg</em>

What to do when your friend hates you for something you did not do?
fgiga [73]

Answer:

This is a tricky one because this person was a massive part of your life, and now they're not. You're probably feeling hurt, confused, lonely and angry all at once. I have been here too and it's horrible so my thoughts are with you! For me, I had to make peace with it. It sounds silly but unfortunately there's not much we can do to try and win them back. If someone can go from being your best friend to all of a sudden hating you then they probably don't care about you as much as they should, and you're probably better off without them :) Seek people who actually care for you, and want to spend time with you. Friendships come and go, and as much as it hurts, if you can accept this and cherish your real friendships (the ones where you can go years without seeing eachother, but are there like a shot when you need them) then the pain should diminish. Good luck :)
