Answer:

C. They are exergonic and provide energy that can be used to produce ATP form ADP and Pi.

Explanation:

There are 2 types of metabolic reactions.

  1. Anabolic reactions (Anabolism)
  2. Catabolic reactions (Catabolism)

CATABOLIC REACTIONS:

They consist of reactions in which larger molecules are broken down into simpler ones. They are exergonic i.e. energy producing reactions. The released energy can be stored in the form of ATP (energy currency of cell).

ANABOLIC REACTIONS:

They consist of reactions in which larger molecules are synthesized from simpler ones. They are endergonic reactions i.e. energy is absorbed.

MEMORY AID:

An easy way to remember catabolic reactions is to think of them as "catastrophic reactions" i.e. larger molecules are destructed to produce simpler ones.

Coming back to the question,

<u>a. They require energy from ATP hydrolysis to break down polymers into monomers. </u>

Energy requiring reactions are anabolic and so this is the incorrect answer.

<u>b. They are endergonic and release energy that can be used for cellular work.</u>

Endergonic reactions are anabolic and hence this is the incorrect answer.

<u>c. They are exergonic and provide energy that can be used to produce ATP from ADP and Pi</u>

This statement correctly fits the definition of Catabolic reactions and is therefore the correct answer.

<u>d. They combine small molecules into larger, more energy-rich molecules.</u>

This statement describes anabolic reactions and hence the incorrect choice.

Propanoic acid, ch3ch2cooh, has a pka =4.9. draw the structure of the conjugate base of propanoic acid and give the ph above whi
xenn [34]

Conjugate base of Propanoic acid (CH_{3}CH_{2}COOH is propanoate where -COOH group gets converted to -COO^{1-}. The structure of conjugate base of Propanoic acid is shown in the diagram.

The p^{H} above which 90% of the compound will be in this conjugate base form can be determined using Henderson's equation as propanoic acid is weak acid and it can form buffer solution on reaction with strong base.

p^{H}= p^{k_{a}+ log\frac{[Conjugate base]}{[acid]}=4.9+log\frac{90}{10}=5.85

As 90% conjugate base is present, so propanoic acid present 10%.

A sample of calcium oxide (CaO) has a mass of 2.80 g. The molar mass of CaO is 56.08 g/mol. How many moles of CaO does this samp
Molodets [167]

Answer is "0.05 mol".

<em>Explanation;</em>

We can do calculation by using a simple formula as

n = m/M

Where, n is the number of moles of the substance (mol), m is the mass of the substance (g) and M is the molar mass of the substance (g/mol).

Here,

n = ?

m = 2.80 g

M = 56.08 g/mol

By substitution,

n = 2.80 g /56.08 g/mol

n = 0.0499 mol ≈ 0.05 mol

The reactant concentration in a second-order reaction was 0.560 m after 115 s and 3.30×10−2 m after 735 s . what is the rate con
Aloiza [94]
Use the formula for second order reaction:

\frac{1}{C} = \frac{1}{C_0} + kt

C = concentration at time t
C0 =  initial conc.
k = rate constant
t = time

1st equation :   \frac{1}{0.56} = \frac{1}{C_0} + 115k

2nd Equation: \frac{1}{0.033} = \frac{1}{C_0} + 735k

Find \frac{1}{C_0} from 1st equation and put it in 2nd equation:

\frac{1}{0.033} = \frac{1}{0.56} - 115k + 735k

\frac{1}{0.033} - \frac{1}{0.56} = 620k

k = 0.046
