Consider the chemical equation for the ionization of CH3NH2 in water. Estimate the percent ionization of CH3NH2 in a 0.050 M CH3
anyanavicka [17]

Answer:  The percent ionization of CH_3NH_2 in a 0.050 M CH_3NH_2(aq) solution is 8.9 %

Explanation:

CH_3NH_2+H_2O\rightarrow OH^-+CH_3NH_3^+

 cM                            0             0

c-c\alpha                       c\alpha            c\alpha

So dissociation constant will be:

K_b=\frac{(c\alpha)^{2}}{c-c\alpha}

Give c= concentration = 0.050 M and \alpha = degree of ionisation = ?

K_b=4.4\times 10^{-4}

Putting in the values we get:

4.4\times 10^{-4}=\frac{(0.050\times \alpha)^2}{(0.050-0.050\times \alpha)}

(\alpha)=0.089

percent ionisation =0.089\times 100=8.9\%

If 12.5 grams of the original sample of cesium-137 remained after 90.6 years, what was the mass of the original sample?
myrzilka [38]

Answer:

Mass of original sample = 100 g

Explanation:

Half life of cesium-137 = 30.17 years

t_{1/2}=\frac {ln\ 2}{k}

Where, k is rate constant

So,

k=\frac{\ln2}{t_{1/2}}

k=\frac{\ln2}{30.17}\ year^{-1}

The rate constant, k = 0.02297 year⁻¹

Time = 90.6 years

Using integrated rate law for first order kinetics as:

[A_t]=[A_0]e^{-kt}

Where,

[A_t] is the concentration at time t

[A_0] is the initial concentration

Initial concentration [A_0] = ?

Final concentration [A_t] = 12.5 grams

Applying in the above equation, we get that:-

12.5\ g=[A_0]e^{-0.02297\times 90.6}

[A_0]=\frac{12.5}{e^{-0.02297\times 90.6}}\ g=100\ g

<u>Mass of original sample = 100 g</u>

Define Saturated Solution. What happens as a saturates solution cools?
solong [7]

Saturated solution is a solution in which no more solute can be dissolved in the solvent. When saturated solution cools, the solution began precipitate from the solution, because under lower temperature, usually, less amount solute can be dissolved in the solvent.

Draw it draw lewis dot structures for each hypothetical molecule shown below, using the correct number of valence electrons for
soldi70 [24.7K]

The first molecule is a sensible molecule having complete octet of each atom such as C, H and O whereas the second molecule having hydrogen present between the aldehyde and methyl group and thus showing hydrogen is making bond with aldehyde and methyl as well which is not possible because hydrogen only having one electron in its octet due to which it can only form a single bond by sharing its valence electron.
