Solid NaCl:

  • Ionic bonds.

Solid H₂O:

  • Hydrogen bonds, and
  • Dipole-dipole interactions.

Explanation

NaCl is an ionic compound. It contains myriads of Na⁺ ions and Cl⁻. The two types of ions carry opposite charges. They attract each other via electrostatic forces. This type of electrostatic force is known as ionic bonds. Those bonds hold the ions in a gigantic ionic lattice.

H₂O is a covalent compound. Two H atoms are bonded to one O atom in each molecule. The O-H single bond is highly polar. Also, there are two lone pairs of electrons on the central O atom in each molecule. The O-H bond is so polar that the H atom carries a very strong partial positive charge. The H atom would be attracted to lone pairs on the O atom in neighboring H₂O molecules. Hydrogen bonds between the H₂O molecules hold them in place in their solid state.

There are two O-H single bonds in each H₂O molecule. H₂O molecules are V-shaped due to the presence of the two lone pairs on the central oxygen. Dipoles due to each O-H bonds do not line up within the molecule. As a result, H₂O molecules carry non-zero net dipole. They would attract each other by dipole-dipole interactions. That intermolecular force coexists with hydrogen bonds. It adds to the strength of the attractions between H₂O molecules.

How do you convert kilograms to pounds?
Maru [420]

Answer: (1 Kilogram = 2.20462 pounds) . There are 2.2046226218 lb in 1 kilogram. To convert kilograms to pounds, multiply your figure by 2.205 for an approximate result. 1 kilogram is also equal to 2 lb and 3.27396195 oz. Working out a rough estimate in your head for converting to pounds and ounces may be tricky - remember that there are 16 ounces in a pound.

How is copper sulphate different to copper sulphide in terms of the elments it contains
son4ous [18]

Answer:

An Element is a substance made up of only one type of atom as like gold, copper, oxygen, etc.

Copper sulphate with molecular formula (CuSO_4), the elements are copper, sulphur and oxygen. It is formed by combination of Cu^{2+} cation and SO_4^{2-} anion.

Copper sulphide with molecular formula (CuS), the elements are copper and sulphur. It is formed by combination of Cu^{2+} cation and S^{2-} anion.

Answer:

The false statement is d Avery,Macleod and McCarty showed that DNA is the genetic information of cells and RNA is the genetic information in the viruses .

Explanation:

Avery,Macleod and MacCarty showed that DNA is the genetic material of the cell.

     On the other hand Fraenkel, Conrat and Sanger carried out their experiment on tobacco mosaic virus to prove that RNA act as genetic material in some viruses.

1. 17.0 grams of xenon hexafluoride is in a solid container. How many milliliters of that gas
BlackZzzverrR [31]

Answer: The volume of gas is 3020 ml

Explanation:

According to ideal gas equation:

PV=nRT

P = pressure of gas = 821.4 torr =  1.08 atm     (760 torr = 1atm)

V = Volume of gas in L = ?

n = number of moles = \frac{\text {given mass}}{\text {Molar mass}}=\frac{17.0g}{245.28g/mol}=0.069mol

R = gas constant =0.0821Latm/Kmol

T =temperature =302.7^0C=(302.7+273)K=575.7K

V=\frac{nRT}{P}

V=\frac{0.069mol\times 0.0821Latm/K mol\times 575.7K}{1.08atm}=3.02L=3020ml

Thus volume of gas is 3020 ml

How many liters of carbon dioxide can be produced if 37.8 grams of carbon disulfide react with excess oxygen gas at 28.85 degree
alekssr [168]
37.8 grams of CS2 equals to 37.8/76=0.5 mole. So the products have 0.5 mole CO2 which is 11.2 liters at STP. So according to the gas law, the volume at given condition is 12.4 liters. So the answer should be 12.2 liters.
