Answer:

Final product: cyclopent-1-en-1-ylbenzene

Explanation:

In this case, we have a <u>Wittig reaction</u>. The addition of PPh_3 and n-Buli will produce the "<u>Ylide compound"</u>. First, we will have an<u> Sn2 reaction</u> in which the iodide is replaced by triphenylphosphine. Then the base n-Buli will remove a hydrogen atom to form a double bond <u>(Ylide compound)</u>. Then the double bond will be delocalized to produce a <u>carbanion</u>. This carbanion, will attack the carbon in the <u>carbonyl group</u> generating a <u>negative charge</u> in the oxygen. Then the negative charge will attack the phosphorous atom to produce a <u>cyclic structure</u>. Finally, the cyclic structure is broken to produce the <u>alkene</u> (cyclopent-1-en-1-ylbenzene).

See figure 1

I hope it helps!

Assume that you have to prepare a 200 g salt solution, and the concentration must be 15 % by mass. How many grams of solute and
Marrrta [24]

Answer:

170 g

Explanation:

w/w% concentration = mass of solute/ mass of solution * 100

mass of solute = x

mass of solution = 200 g

w/w% concentration =  15 % by mass

15 = x/200 * 100

15 = 100x/200

200 * 15 = 100x

x = 200 * 15/100

x = 2 * 15

x = 30g

But mass of solution = mass of solute + mass of solvent

mass of solute = 30g

mass of solvent = mass of solution  - mass of solute

mass of solvent = 200 g - 30 g

mass of solvent = 170 g

A compound contains 36%. Of calcium and 64% of chlorine. Calculate its simplest
andreev551 [17]

Answer:

Explanation:

1. Find the empirical formula of a compound that has 36% of Calcium (Ca), 64% of Chlorine (Cl).

2. Find molar mass of each component: Ca=40.078, Cl=35.453

3 Convert to moles: Ca=0.8982484155896, Cl=1.8052068936338

4 Find smallest mole value: 0.8982484155896

5 Divide all components by the smallest value: Ca=1, Cl=2.0096967189738

6 Round to closest whole numbers: Ca=1, Cl=2

7 Combine to get the empirical formula: CaCl2

What gets reduced in an electrolytic cell made with nickel and copper electrodes?
jekas [21]

Answer:

D. Ni²⁺

Explanation:

We know at once that the answer cannot be A or C, because Ni and Cu are already in their lowest oxidation states.

The correct answer must be either B or D.

An electrolytic cell is the opposite of a galvanic cell. In the former, the reaction proceeds spontaneously. In the latter, you must force the reaction to occur.

One strategy to solve this problem is:

  1. Look up the standard reduction potentials for the half reaction·
  2. Figure out the spontaneous direction.
  3. Write the equation in the reverse direction.

1. Standard reduction potentials

                                E°/V

Cu²⁺ + 2e⁻ ⟶ Cu; 0.3419

Ni²⁺ + 2e⁻ ⟶ Ni;  -0.257

2. Galvanic Cell

We reverse the direction of the more negative half cell and add.

                                       <u>E°/V </u>

Ni ⟶ Ni²⁺ + 2e⁻;           0.257

<u>Cu²⁺ + 2e⁻ ⟶ Cu;      </u>   0.3419

Ni + Cu²⁺ ⟶ Cu + Ni²⁺; 0.599

This is the spontaneous direction.

Cu²⁺ is reduced to Cu.

3. Electrochemical cell

                                        <u>E°/V</u>

Ni²⁺ + 2e⁻ ⟶ Ni;           -0.257

<u>Cu ⟶ Cu²⁺ + 2e⁻;        </u> <u>-0.3419</u>

Cu + Ni²⁺ ⟶ Ni + Cu²⁺; -0.599

This is the non-spontaneous direction.

Ni²⁺ is reduced to Ni in the electrolytic cell.

In the reaction between formic acid (HCHO2) and sodium hydroxide, water and sodium formate (NaCHO2) are formed. To determine the
Gnom [1K]

Answer:

Balanced equation: HCHO₂ + NaOH → NaCHO₂ + H₂O

Heat of reaction:  22.6 kJ/mol

Explanation:

The chemical equation is the sum of the reactants given the products:

HCHO₂ + NaOH → NaCHO₂ + H₂O

To balance the equation, the elements must be in the same amount in the reactants and the products. As we can see, there are the same amount of elements on each side, so the equation is balanced.

The heat flows can be calculated by:

Q = m*cp*ΔT

Where m is the mass of the substances (mass of formic acid + mass of sodium hydroxide), cp is the specif heat, and ΔT is the variation at temperature (final - initial).

Mass is the density multiplied by the volume, so:

m = 1*75 + 1*45 = 120 g

Q = 120*4.18*(25.5 - 21.9)

Q = 1,805.76 J = 1.81 kJ

The number of moles of the reactants can be calculated by the volume multipled by the concentration:

HCHO₂ = 0.075L * 1.07 mol/L = 0.08025 mol

NaOH = 0.045L * 1.78 mol/L = 0.0801 mol

So, NaOH is limiting (stoichiometry is 1:1, so it's necessary the same amount of the reactants), and the heat of the reaction will be calculated by it.

ΔH = Q/n

ΔH = 1.81/0.0801

ΔH = 22.6 kJ/mol
