Using the following equation for the combustion of octane, calculate the heat of reaction for 50.00 g of octane. The molar mass

of octane is 114.33 g/mole. 2 C8H18 + 25 O2 -> 16 CO2 + 18 H2O Hrxn = -11018 kJ Using the following equation for the combustion of octane, calculate the heat of reaction for 50.00 of octane. The molar mass of octane is 114.33 . 2 + 25 16 + 18 = -11018 -2.410 kJ -6300 kJ -4820 kJ -2410 kJ

Answer : The heat of reaction is, -2407.43 KJ

Solution : Given,

\Delta H^o_{rxn}=-11018KJ

Mass of octane = 50 g

Molar mass of octane = 114.33 g/mole

First we have to calculate the moles of octane.

\text{ Moles of octane}=\frac{\text{ Mass of octane}}{\text{ Molar mass of octane}}=\frac{50g}{114.33g/mole}=0.437moles

The given balanced reaction is,

2C_8H_{18}+25O_2\rightarrow 16CO_2+18H_2O

From the reaction, we conclude that

2 moles of octane releases heat energy = -11018 KJ

0.437 moles of octane releases heat energy = \frac{-11018KJ}{2moles}\times 0.437moles=-2407.43KJ

Therefore, the heat of the reaction is, -2407.43 KJ

Analyzing a specific reaction Consider the following reaction: 2Mg+O2→2MgO,rate=k[Mg][O2]2 Part A What is the overall reaction o
stepladder [879]

Answer:

3

Explanation:

Order of in the mass action law is the coefficient which is raised to the active concentration of the reactants. It is experimentally determined and can be zero, positive negative or fractional.

The order of the whole reaction is the sum of the order of each reactant which is raised to its power in the rate law.

Thus,

For the reaction:-

2Mg+O₂→2MgO

Rate  = k[Mg][O₂]²

Order w.r.t. Mg = 1

Order w.r.t. O₂ = 2

<u>So, order of the overall reaction = 1 + 2 = 3</u>

Calcium carbide, CaC2, reacts with water to form calcium hydroxide and the flammable gas ethyne (acetylene) in the reaction: Wha
AysviL [449]

Answer:

1 mole of CaC₂ will produce 26g of C₂H₂ or 64.1g of CaC₂ will produce 26g of C₂H₂

Explanation:

Hello,

To solve this question, we'll require a balanced chemical equation of reaction between calcium carbide and water.

Equation of reaction

CaC₂ + 2H₂O → Ca(OH)₂ + C₂H₂

Molar mass of calcium carbide (CaC₂) = 64.1g/mol

Molar mass of water (H₂O) = 18g/mol

Molar mass of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)₂) = 74g/mol

Molar mass of ethyne (C₂H₂) = 26g/mol

From the equation of reaction, 1 mole of CaC₂ will produce 1 mole of C₂H₂

1 mole of CaC₂ = mass / molar mass

Mass = 1 × 64.1

Mass = 64.1g

1 mole of C₂H₂ = mass / molar mass

Mass = 1 × 26

Mass = 26g

Therefore, 1 mole of CaC₂ will produce 26g of C₂H₂

Note: this is a hypothetical calculation since we were not given the initial mass of CaC₂ that starts the reaction
