Longitudinal waves are the waves in which particles move parallel to the direction of propagation of the wave.
Longitudinal waves travel in the form of compression and rarefaction.
Compression means the particles come closer to each other i.e. the density of particles at a point increases. While rarefaction means the particles are far apart from each other.
