The pictures to the right show two samples of substance X. Answer the questions below about the intensive and extensive properties of substance X. You may assume that both cubes are solid (that is, not hollow inside).

Sample A melts at the same temperature as sample B.

Sample B has a larger mass than sample A.

Sample A has a smaller volume than sample B.

If sample A floats in water, sample B . will also float in water

If sample B is attracted to a magnet, sample A will also be attracted to a magnet.

Explanation:

Melting is defined as a change in which a solid changes into liquid state.

For example, an ice cube will melt at room temperature whereas a large ice block will also melt at room temperature.

Therefore, sample A melts at the same temperature as sample B.

Since sample A is small in size whereas sample B is larger in size. Hence, sample B has a larger mass than sample A. Also, sample A has smaller volume than sample B.

On the other hand, floating ability of a substance depends on its density. Therefore, being sample of same substance if sample A floats in water then sample B will also float in water.

Also, it is given that sample B is attracted to a magnet therefore, sample A will also be attracted to a magnet.

Adding/ removing
masya89 [10]

Answer:

False- The number of electrons does not affect the type of element.

Explanation:

The adding/removing of protons is what changes the type of element. for example, if you have a molecule of Boron, which has 5 protons, and you add one proton, you will have created a carbon molecule with 6 protons. The number of protons of an element is its atomic number. Elements can have varying numbers of both electrons and neutrons without changing the type of element.

Which statements describe properties that are unique to metalloids? Check all that apply.
OleMash [197]

The answer is:

- metalloids are semiconductive.

- metalloids are amphoteric.

The explanation:

The metalloids are only 6 elements in the periodic table which are boron, silicon, germanium, arsenic, antimony, and tellurium. And its properties are intermediate between the nonmetal and the metal. and their properties are brittle, shiny ,solid. but the properties that are unique to metalloids.
