A negatively charged plastic comb is brought close to, but does not touch, a small piece of paper. If the comb and the paper are
Irina-Kira [14]

If the comb and the paper are attracted to each other the charge on the paper, is D)must be positive

<h3>Laws of electrical attraction</h3>

This states that

  • Like charges attract
  • Unlike charges repel

Now, given that a negatively charged plastic comb is brought close to, but does not touch, a small piece of paper. If the comb and the paper are attracted to each other the charge on the paper, this implies that both the negatively charged plastic comb and the paper have opposite charges.

Since the charge on the plastic comb is negative, this means that the charge on the paper must be positive

So, if the comb and the paper are attracted to each other the charge on the paper, is D)must be positive

A dog is chasing a cat towards a tree. The cat has a 10-yard lead and runs at 6 yards per second. The dog runs at a speed of 8 y
oksano4ka [1.4K]

Answer : Cat will reach tree first.

Explanation :

It is given that,

Total distance between dog and tree is 30 yards. The cat has 10 yards lead. So, the distance between cat and tree is 20 yards.

Speed of cat  is 6 Yards/ sec.

Speed of dog is 8 Yards/sec.

speed of cat is, S_c=\dfrac{distance\ covered\ by\ cat}{time\ taken}

6\ Yards/sec=\dfrac{20\ Yards}{t_c}

t_c=3.33\ sec

Now, speed of dog is, S_d=\dfrac{distance\ covered\ by\ dog}{time\ taken}

8\ Yards/sec=\dfrac{30\ yards}{t_d \ sec}

t_d=3.75\ sec

It is clear that, cat is taking less time as compared with dog. So, the cat will reach tree first.

After the elevator accelerates, then it moves at a constant speed of 6.0m/s, calculate the tension inthe cable.
Anon25 [30]

We know that

• The mass of the elevator is 5000 kg.

Let's draw a free-body diagram.

As you can observe, there are just two forces involved, the weight of the elevator and the tension force. Let's use Newton's Second Law.

\begin{gathered} \Sigma F_y=ma_y \\ T-W=ma_y \end{gathered}

But, W = mg = 5000kg*9.8m/s^2 = 49,000 N, and m = 5000 kg, a = 0 (because the speed is constant).

\begin{gathered} T-49,000N=5000\operatorname{kg}\cdot0 \\ T=49,000N \end{gathered}<h2>Therefore, the tension in the cable is 49,000 N.</h2>
