The Patrol officers in different demarcations or sectors, should be in the best disposition to provide those services quickly end efficiently. When working around the clock, as a direct radio link in the patrol car, the patrol car can arrive as the scent of events with a minimal delay. The assignment of uniformed police officers to carry out preliminary investigations offers additional advantages. This confidence in the skills of the patrol officers prevents the investigating agents from engaging on tasks in which it is necessary to waste valuable time and can dedicate themselves and concentrate on the more specialized phases of criminal investigation.

In addition, the preliminary investigation make the patrol officers acquire experience and investigator skills and develop techniques for interviewing and obtaining evidence. Likewise, it makes the police familiar with the professional characteristics of the various criminals.

Each preliminary investigator represents a new challenge for the police and the stages of the procedures must vary, to adjust to each situation.
