Most populations changed from mostly light colored to mostly dark colored in the 1800s. This relates to microevolution.
The cuticle decreases water loss and stomata assist gas exchange. The plants from wet habitats must have a comparatively large number of stomata and thin cuticle. The plants existing in dry habitats must have comparatively few stomata and thick cuticle.
Cell division allows for the growing of new cells. With a unicellular organism, cell division would be the cell's way of reproducing or multiplying, in other words, surviving. Within a multicellular organism, cell division is the organism's way of replacing old, damaged, or dead cells. Within multicellular organisms, cell division also aids in growth.
