The sound source of a ship's sonar system operates at a frequency of 18.0 kHzkHz . The speed of sound in water (assumed to be at

a uniform 20∘C)∘C) is 1482 m/sm/s. The ship is at rest in the water.
(a) What is the wavelength of the waves emitted by the source?
(b) What is the difference in frequency between the directly radiated waves and the waves reflected from a whale traveling directly toward the ship at 4.95 m/s? The ship is at rest in the water.

Answer:

Explanation:

a ) wave length of waves in water

= velocity / frequency

= 1482 / (18 x 1000)

= .0823 m

= 8.23 cm

b ) Applying Doppler's effect relation

frequency of reflected wave

= 18000 [ 1482 / (1482 - 4.95 ) ]

= 18000 x 1.003385

= 18061

Difference in frequency= 61 Hz

How much time does it take a rhino running at 40 m/s to run 250 m?
lions [1.4K]

Answer:

Rhinoceroses are odd-toed ungulates native to sub-Saharan Africa and southern Asia, though all five living species have hugely contracted in range and number due to the influence of humans. Despite their titanic, tank-like bulk, rhinos can be amazingly swift: The fastest may reach at least 50 kilometers per hour (31 mph).

On a hot summer day in the state of Washington while kayaking, I saw several swimmers jump from a railroad bridge into the Snoho
Svetlanka [38]

Answer: part a: 19.62m

part b: 19.62 m/s

part a: 2.83 secs

Explanation:If the air resistance is ignored then the swimmer experience free fall under gravity hence

u=0

a=9.81 m/s2

t=2 secs

s=ut+0.5at^2

s=h

h=0*2+0.5*9.81*2^2\\h=19.62 meters

Part b

v=u+at\\v=0+9.81*2\\v=19.62m/s

Part c

now we have h=2*19.62=39.24

39.24=0+0.5*9.81*t^2\\t^2=8\\t=2.83 secs

A woman launches a boat from one shore of a straight river and wants to land at the point directly on the opposite shore. If the
I am Lyosha [343]

Answer:

If she stands on the North side of a river flowing to the East at 5 mph,

she must head towards the SouthWest to arrive on the South side of the river directly across from her starting point and we have

x^2 + 5^2 = 10^2 where x is her speed directly across the river

x = (75)^1/2 = 8.66 mph towards the South

sin theta = 5 / 10 = 1/2

She must angle the boat at 30 deg from straight South
